Delores Wheeler Obituary

Delores Wheeler also known as “Hucky” and “Lois” was born on May 26,1961, to the late Arto and Elizabeth Wheeler in Boston, Massachusetts. She entered into eternal rest on April 12, 2024 at Trident Medical Center in Summerville, South Carolina.

Delores completed her education at Jeremiah E. Burke High School of Dorchester, Massachusetts with the class of 1980. After graduating from high school, she pursued a career working with children at Lena Park Day Care Center where she worked long term as a head teacher before moving to Ruffin, South Carolina. Prior to her move, she gave birth to her one true love, her son, James Elliott Wheeler. Upon relocating to Ruffin, South Carolina, she worked at various companies including back in the daycare field before finding her niche at Hardees, becoming their biscuit maker.

Delores enjoyed cooking, watching old programs and sleeping. She especially loved watching “Leave it to Beaver” before leaving for work at 4 A.M. In her downtime from Hardee’s, she loved to spend time with her son and grandchildren, when she was not taking her daily nap. She made sure to watch her favorite soap operas, “Young and the Restless,” and “The Bold and Beautiful.” Delores will be remembered for feeding her friends in the neighborhood as well as her church members. We in the family called her the “Honorary Mayor,” since she seemed to know everyone and they knew her too.

Although she was known for speaking her mind with no filter, Delores was softly at heart and at times her bite was bigger than her bark. She was not one for holding grudges and to know her was to love her with all of her quirkiness.

Delores has been a member of Buckhead United Methodist Church since she moved to Ruffin, South Carolina, which is her parents and grandparents church home. She served as an usher and a former member of United Women in Faith formerly known as United Methodist Women.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Arto and Elizabeth Wheeler, her brothers, Arto Jay Wheeler, Jr. and Michael A. Wheeler.

Delores leaves many fond memories to be cherished by her son, James Elliott Wheeler of Ruffin, South Carolina; grandchildren, James Elliott Wheeler, II of Walterboro, South Carolina and Payton Wheeler of Augusta, Georgia; sisters, Dianne M. Johnson of Walterboro, South Carolina and Sylvia Theresa Wheeler of Zebulon, North Carolina and bonus sister, Willeka Sanders (Shawn) of Boston, Massachusetts; uncles, Richard Williams (Florene) of Sylvania Georgia, and Lee Seabrook of Jacksonville, Florida; aunts, Essie Mae Williams of Covington, Georgia, Bonnie Mae Gatewood of Plant City, Florida and honorary aunt Vernell “Dunky” Lewis of Ruffin, South Carolina; six nephews; one niece; three great nephews; one great niece; two special friends, Minnie Brewer of Boston, Massachusetts and Annette Bodison of Walterboro, South Carolina. The void will be extremely felt by her son and remaining siblings.
