Catherine "Nickey" Chestnut

Ms. Catherine Chestnut was born on April 20, 1931 in Walterboro, South Carolina. She was the daughter of the late Sammie Chestnut and Iola Barnes of Walterboro. She made her transition to a new life to be with her father in heaven, on Tuesday, April 9, 2019 at Pruitt Healthcare of Walterboro, South Carolina.  Home-Going Celebration will be held Monday, April 15, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at the St. Peter's A.M.E. Church, 300 Fishburne Street, Walterboro, South Carolina.  Reverend Leon R. Maxwell, Pastor and Eulogist.  Interment, Heavenly Rest Memorial Garden.  A public viewing will be held Sunday, April 14, 2019 at the S-M-T Chapel of Serenity from 4:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m. 

She attended the Public Schools of Colleton County. She was affectionately called "Nickie" by her family and friends. Nickie enjoyed cooking and spending time with her family and friends until she became no longer able to do so. She will be forever missed by those who knew her and loved her.

She was preceded in death by one son, Linwood Barnes, one daughter, Esther George; a grandson, Sheldwin George; two sisters, Eloise Williams and Alvertis Chestnut Barnhill and  her stepfather, Israel Barnes.  

 She leaves to  celebrate her life, A son, Vernon Barnes of Walterboro, SC; daughter, Gwendolyn Crosby of Round O, SC;  seven grand children, Karwin Barnes of New York, Thomas (Sharmaine ) of North Charleston, SC, Sonya (Jermain) of Walterboro, SC, Nicey of Dorchester, SC, Lillian of Walterboro, SC, Michele of Cottageville, SC and Quintan of Walterboro, SC; twenty great- grand children; eleven great-great grand children; two sisters, Barbara Chestnut of Cincinnati, Ohio and Barbara Rudolph of Cottageville, SC; one son-in-law, Thomas George of Walterboro, SC and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
