Deaconess Eugenia Stokes Obituary

Deaconess Eugenia Daniels Stokes was born June 4, 1917, in Smoaks, South Carolina to the late Capers and Juanita Daniels. She entered into eternal rest on December 29, 2019 at the Coastal Carolina Hospital in Hardeeville, South Carolina.  Home-Going Celebration will be held Friday, January 3, 2020 at 12:00 Noon at Lovely Hill Missionary Baptist Church, 408 Augusta Highway, Smoaks, South Carolina.  Reverend Floyd W. White, Pastor and Eulogist.  Interment, Church Cemetery.  There will be a public viewing Thursday, January 2, 2020 at Stephens-Maree-Tracy Funeral Home Chapel of Serenity from 4:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. 

Mother Eugenia was joined in holy matrimony to the late Mr. Bossman Stokes. To this union, seven children were born. She was educated in the public schools of Colleton County. She was a homemaker and a harvester. She served as Matriarch of her family for seventy nine years.

As a child, she joined Beulah Baptist Church and later joined Lovely Hill Baptist Church where she served as the mother of the church up until her death. She served as a Deaconess, Missionary, Sunday School Teacher, Sunshine Band Advisor, member of the Senior Choir, dedicated member of the Free Gift Missionary Educational Union, Lovely Hill Baptist Association, served as Pulpit Aide Club president and she made sure that the linens used for communion were cleaned and ironed faithfully. She was dedicated and faithful until her health failed. Her character exemplified the woman in Proverbs 31.

 She was preceded in death by her husband Deacon Bossman Stokes and her son Mr. Gary Stokes; her siblings, Retha, Carrie, Charles Henry, Dosher, Mary, Hubert, Mattie, Cornelia and Rhodell; two grandchildren, Mr. Willie Brown, Jr. and Mr. Dedric Stokes.

She leaves to cherish her memories and celebrate her life, her children, Ms. Edna Buckner, Mr. Capers (Helen) Stokes, Ms. Christine Scruggs, Ms. Mary Francis Brown, Mr. Angus (Rosa) Stokes and Mrs. Luvenia (Charles) Rivers, all of Walterboro, South Carolina; eleven grands, Edward Jr., Toya, Roderick Sr., Capers Jr., Angie, Marilyn, Steve, Kenny, Mekesha, Kelvin, and Alana; thirty-one great-grands; and fourteen great- great- grands; a special adopted granddaughter, Ms. Hope Washington, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
