Edith McCoy Reed was born March 10, 1943 in Sumter, South Carolina to the late Jimmy and Darkis Davis McCoy. She entered into eternal rest August 7, 2019, at Prisma Health Richland Hospital. Home-Going Celebration will be held Saturday, August 17, 2019 at the Ephriam D. Stephens Funeral Home, 230 S. Lafayette Drive, Sumter, South Carolina. Pastor Clinton Bostic, Eulogist.
She received her education in the public schools of Sumter County and worked for many years as a health care provider. Edith was baptized and became a member of Christ Temple Apostolic Church of Jesus Christ under the leadership and direction of Pastor Clinton Bostic. She was known as the “Mother of the Church”.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John Reed; daughter, Cynthia McCoy; siblings, Malichia, Frank, Ben, Jerimiah, Jimmy, Willie, Dave, Kathleen, and Mary Ann; sisters- in- law, Janet, Ada, Etta, and Mary; brothers- in-law, ID, Sam, Paul and James.
She leaves to cherish her memories three children, her daughter, Linda D. McCoy of Sumter, S.C.; two sons, Christopher L. McCoy of Sumter, S.C. and Andre McCoy of Columbia, S.C.; grandchildren, Sharonica, Jennifer, Patrick, Christopher,Jr., Thalia, Khadijah, Rehiem, Jenae, Lashay, Karima, Ryan, Tianna, Tyreese, Siedah and Jamal; forty five great grandchildren; four siblings, Mary Jane McCoy of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Ella Rose Hayward, Maggie Skipper and Sarah Evans all of Sumter, S.C. ; two sisters- in- law, Marie Davis and Geneva McCoy of Sumter, S.C., and a host of loving nieces, nephews, relatives, church family and friends.
