July 22, 1948 ~ October 22, 2019 (age 71) 71 Years Old

Leon Simmons Obituary

 Mr. Leon Rickey Simmons, 71, seventh son of the late Jerry “JT” and late Pearleen Jenkins Simmons was born, July 22, 1948 in Smoaks, South Carolina.  After an extended illness, Rick found rest in his Savior’s arms on early Tuesday morning, October 22, 2019, he peacefully fell asleep at Orangeburg Regional Hospital, Orangeburg, South Carolina.  Home-Going Celebration will be held Saturday, October 26, 2019 at Lovely Hill Missionary Baptist Church, 408 Augusta Hwy. Smoaks, South Carolina at 1:00 p.m. Reverend Floyd W. White, Pastor and Eulogist.  Interment, Church Cemetery.  A public viewing will be Friday, October 25, 2019 at the Stephens-Maree-Tracy Chapel of Serenity from 4:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m.  

Rick was a life-long member of Lovely Hill Missionary Baptist Church in Smoaks, South Carolina until his health declined, but continued to worship with his wife at Hickory Hill United Methodist Church in Smoaks, South Carolina. He accepted Jesus Christ as His Savior in 2017.  He was educated in the public schools of Colleton County.  

Rick was employed by; General Electric, South Carolina Electric and Gas, and Avco.  In the early years of his adult life, Rick journeyed to Patterson, New Jersey in search of a better life and learned the skill of drywall hanging and finishing under the skillful teaching of his uncles, Charlie (Booster), Willie, Leon, Franklin, Landy and Calaway.  After he returned to South Carolina he found employment with Sturkey Acoustic and was self-employed for many years.  

 He was a very jovial person and enjoyed making others laugh.  He enjoyed baseball, mechanics and keeping his cars cleaned.  

He was married to Miss Catherine Bostic, September 12, 1975 and this union was blessed with two children.  He was preceded in death by his parents; his siblings, Jerry, Jack, James, Willie, and Ulysses; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Hattie and Edward Bostic; brother-in-law, Jack.  

 He will be lovingly remembered by his loving and devoted wife, Catherine; his sons, Mr. William (Lavatrice) Harrison, Walterboro, SC, Mr. Derrick “lil Rick” (Michelle) Simmons, Ridgeland, SC;  his daughters, Ms. Stacy D. Bostic, Smoaks, SC, Ms. Sheree Stephens, Walterboro, SC; his grandchildren, Ms. Chenise Graham, Mr. Marquez Ackerman, Mr. Shemar Simmons, Ms. Paris Middleton, Mr. Tajh Copeland, Mr. Kareem Harrison, Jr., Mr. Lamontrel Walker; his brother, Mr. J.B. (Sandra) Simmons, Smoaks, SC; his sisters, Ms. Jestine S. Robinson, Walterboro, SC, Evangelist Earleen S. (Reverend Sinclair) Holback, Orangeburg, SC, Mrs. Margaree (William) Richardson, Smoaks, SC; his sisters-in-law, Ms. Rebecca Simmons, Ms. Patricia Simmons, Ms. Anna B. Simmons, Ms. Doris Simmons, Ms. Joann Bostic, Smoaks, SC, Ms. Joannie Simmons, Orangeburg, SC, Ms. Betty Bostic,  Cottageville, SC; his uncles, Mr. Earl Cameron, Sanford, NC, Mr. Marshall (Mary) Bostic, Mr. Charlie (Earlene) Risher, Mr. Calaway Simmons; his aunts, Ms. Jackie Simmons, Ms. Jo Simmons, Ms. Francis Jenkins, Ms. Irene Bostic; fond nephews, Kelvin “Scottie” Simmons and Darius “DJ” Robinson; special friends, Mr. Hurley Reed and Mr. Alfred Daniels and a  host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
