Agnes Lambert Obituary

"And He said to them, 'Why did you seek Me? Did you not know that I must be about My Father's business?"   Luke 2:49  NKJV

Agnes Lambert, beloved daughter of the late Willie and Lillie Mae Griffin  was born on September 10, 1942 in South Carolina. She departed this life on Saturday, December 14, 2024 at Trident Medical Center in North Charleston, South Carolina.

She attended school in Smoaks and graduated from Ruffin High School. She married Sidney Johnson who proceeded her in death and from this union, four children were born. Her eldest child and only son Derrick Johnson, also preceded her in death.

After moving to New York,  she continued her education and graduated from Business School. It was in New York where she met her partner and  life companion Joseph Brown, Jr. who preceded her in death and from this union, one child was born.

She was employed with Chase Manhattan Bank, N.A. until retirement. Still being young and full of life, she started employment as a Child Care Provider in New York City for Child Services. After fully retiring from the work force, she relocated back to Smoaks, South Carolina to care for her aging parents.

Her move back to Smoaks would have her meet Mr. James P. Lambert. After 14 years of dating the two got  married  and spent  12 years together as husband and wife. They would spend time traveling, visiting family and their favorite location was Myrtle Beach. They also supported the community by attending most funeral services. In the community, when you saw one, you saw the other.  You would also find them at church where mommy attended and was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by her late husbands, Sidney Johnson and Joseph Brown, Jr., her parents, Willie and Lillie Mae Griffin, her son, Derrick Johnson, one grandson, Cory Dixon.

Agnes is survived by her husband, James Lambert of Smoaks, South Carolina;  four daughters, Sharon Joyner of Bronx, New York, Teris Johnson of Walterboro, South Carolina, Theresa Daniels of Walterboro, South Carolina, Sharii Brown of Uniondale, New York; two Step-Children, Lana (Arthur) Robinson of Columbia, South Carolina and James (Quentella) Lambert of Smoaks, South Carolina; eight grandsons, Shaun Johnson of Maryland, Terrence Johnson of Maryland, Darnell Dixon of Bronx, New York, Tywan of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, Katrell Dixon of Bronx, New York,  Brandon Johnson of Virginia Beach, Virginia, Jonathan Daniels of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, and Christian Drummond of Uniondale, New York; four granddaughters, Krystal Daniels of Walterboro, South Carolina, Kristina Johnson of Brooklyn, New York, Aaliyah Dixon-Myers of Charleston, South Carolina, and Aniya Brown of Hackensack, New Jersey; thirteen great-grandchildren; three sisters -in -law, Viola Scott, Patricia (Ervin) Moore, and Lois Taylor and one brother -in -law, Rev. Earl Walker all of Southhill, Virginia;  four sons-in-law, Andrew Dixon, New York,  Leon Daniels, South Carolina, Walter Hand, South Carolina,  Christopher Drummond, New Jersey; one daughter-in-law, Juanita Johnson of New York; her first cousin,  Vhonnye Singleton of Charlotte, North Carolina and a special friend, Amelia Major, “Ms. Mae.”

Mommy was more than a typical Mother. She was a Wife, Sister, Grandmother, Auntie, friend and confidant. She helped everyone she could with a warm meal, clothes and a place to stay if needed.  Being someone who spoke plainly, she meant what she said and said what she meant. It may have been spicy, like Agnes, but was always undergirded with love. She had a heart of gold, always ready, willing, and able to render great advice even up until her last days.

Mommy, we celebrate you, the life you led and the example you lived and provided. As we learn how to navigate without you here with us, we carry on the legacy that was your life. You may no  longer be with us physically, but you will live in our hearts forever. Love you eternally.
