Aletha Johnson Capers Obituary

Aletha (Noont) Johnson Capers was born on November 2, 1952 to the late Albertus Baker and the late Mary Lee Johnson McCray  and the step daughter of Willie Simon McCray. She was the loving wife of Ishmael Capers, Jr. She departed this life on Saturday, October 28, 2023, at Prisma Health Tuomey Hospital in Sumter, South Carolina.

She was a graduate of C.E.Murray High School Greeleyville, South Carolina, Williamsburg County.  In her early ages, she attended Clark United Methodist Church in Oswego, South Carolina until she became a faithful member of Trinity Missionary Baptist Church in Sumter, South Carolina, where she sang on the church choir.

Aletha began her work history in the cafeteria at Tuomey Health until she married and became a homemaker. Even then, she still faithfully volunteered her service at schools in Sumter, including Rubye J. Johnson and R.E. Davis Schools in Sumter, South Carolina.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Albertus Baker, Mary Lee Johnson and Willie Simon McCray; brothers, Leroy "Gaitor" Wilson and Willie McCray and bonus daughter, Latoya Capers.

Those who remain on earth to shore and commemorate her memories her husband Ishmael Capers, Jr. of Sumter, South Carolina; two daughters, one bonus daughter, Rosemary Capers of Virginia, Monica Aletha Capers of Sumter, South Carolina, and LaShawn Ceasar of Sumter, South Carolina; six grandchildren; four bonus grandchildren; four great-grandchildren and one bonus grandson, Quasim Capers, Duante Capers, Kaleed Capers, Jr., Deshainan Capers, Jassel Capers, Kamoran Capers, Jamone Capers, Marion Wheeler, Basir Wells, Kamile Capers, Harmony Capers, Serenity Capers, Kaleed "KJ" Capers, Jr., Melody Capers, Jeremiah Capers all of Sumter, South Carolina; one sister, Diana (Roderick) Deschamps of Sumter, South Carolina; three special sister-in-laws, Brenda Capers, Alberta Capers and Annie Mae Brailford; four brothers, Thomas (Gayle) Johnson of Fayetteville, North Carolina, Thomas (Carolyn) Wilson of Washington, D.C., James "Greeleyville" McCray of Sumter, South Carolina and Leroy "Doc" McCray of Sumter, South Carolina and a host of other special relatives and friends.
