Betty Jean Fortune was born on January 6, 1956, to the late Britton Reames and Willie Mae Capers Reames in Bishopville, South Carolina. She peacefully entered into eternal rest on July 21, 2025 at Cardina Pines Medical Center in Hartsville, South Carolina.
Betty attended Mt. Pleasant High School, where she graduated with the class of 1974. After graduation, she attended Morris College in Sumter, South Carolina.
Betty was a faithful member of New Zion A.M.E. Church in Wisacky, South Carolina. She was a member of the Missionary Board, Stewardess Board, Usher Board, Daughters of Sarah and the Kitchen Committee.
Betty was employed at Burlington Industry, Sonoco and Ahlstrom before retiring in 2023.
Betty was preceded in death by her husband Lucious Fortune, Jr.; father, Britton Reames, Sr., brothers, Joseph Reames and Britton Reames, Jr. and one sister, Naomi Aaron.
Those left to cherish her memories, her son, Reginald Fortune of the home; her daughter, Chantae Fortune of Dumfries, Virginia; one granddaughter, Kanesha Fortune of Elliott, South Carolina; mother, Willie Mae Reames of Bishopville, South Carolina; three sisters, Lorine Aaron, Evelyn Reames (Levi) Rembert, and Carolyn Reames, all of Bishopville; two brothers, James (Shirley) Reames, Hosea (Carrie) Pearson, all of Bishopville, South Carolina; sisters-in-law, Sadie Lee (Buddy) Glover, Ann Fortune, Vivian Fortune, Carol Wilson and Rilla (Nick) Wilson; her best friend, Bernice Price and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
