Betty Ann Bryant Pinckney

Mrs. Betty Ann Bryant Pinckney, the youngest daughter of the late Isaiah and Miriam E. Johnson Bryant was born on May 17, 1960 in Colleton County. She quietly entered into eternal rest on May 17, 2026 at HCA Trident Medical Center in Charleston, South Carolina.

She attended the public schools of Colleton County. Her educational journey began at Bethel Elementary School in Smoak, South Carolina. Then she later attended Bells Elementary School in Ruffin, South Carolina, Smoaks Middle School, and Ruffin High School where she completed her high school education. After high school, she attended Claflin College in Orangeburg, South Carolina where she earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice. Her first job was at Will Lou Gray Opportunity School in Columbia, South Carolina. Then, she moved on to Probation Parole and Pardon Services in Walterboro, Beaufort, and Hampton, South Carolina where she worked until her retirement.  She loved her family, helping troubled youth, and giving second chances. When she retired from PPPS her rank was Agent in Charge.

She joined Bethel United Methodist at an early age, where she served on the Finance Committee. She  later joined Saint Stephen Ministry Church of God in Christ from 2009-2014 as a watch care member. In 2014, she became a full member. She also worked in the finance office at Saint Stephen Ministry Church of God in Christ. She was a pledged member of the Prayer Time Line, Monday-Friday with prayer warriors from across the United States under the leadership of Pastor Edward L. Martin.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Isaiah and Miriam E. Johnson Bryant; her only son, Ja’Keem Q. Pinckney, whom she loved so dearly; one brother, Isaiah Bryant; one brother-in-law, Thurmond Bowers; and two nephews. 

She leaves to cherish her memory her loving husband Marvin K. Pinckney; two step-daughters, Tyeshia (Larry) Varn; Nakia (Greg) Holmes; one step-son, Shawn Grant; two God daughters, Shaquita Bryant and Cherish M. Hamilton; four sisters, Theo (Albert) Smoak, Carolyn (Lionel) Alleyne, Debra Bowers, and Kathy (Randy) Jenkins; one brother, Harold (Olga) Bryant; One sister-in-law, Betty (Hezekiah) Council; two brothers-in-law, Henry (Dorothy) Pinckney, and Prince (Faye) Pinckney; one paternal aunt, JoAnn Drain; a special cousin, Rebecca Bryant; five nieces, five nephews, and a host of grandnieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, friends; as well as two special caregivers, Charlene William and Angie Taylor.
