Birdie Mae Britt Jenkins was born on July 19, 1927, in Dorchester County to the late Raeford Britt and Hattie Hamp Britt. She entered into eternal rest on September 6, 2025 at her residence in Smoaks, South Carolina.
Birdie known to many as “Little Dot” was educated in the public schools of Dorchester County. She accepted Jesus as her Lord and Savior at an early age as member of the St. Mark Church of St. George.
Birdie was married to the late Nathaniel Jenkins on October 9, 1943, to the union seven children were born. After marriage, Birdie joined Lovely Hill Missionary Baptist Church where she served as a custodian, cook and usher.
Birdie was known for her home-made pound cakes. She loved cooking, gardening, and quilting. If you ever visited her, she always made sure you never left empty handed. She always had to find something to give you even if it was a bottle of water. When harvest time came, she would give most of the crops to her friends.
Birdie was preceded in death by her husband, Nathaniel Jenkins; two brothers, East and James Britt and two sisters, Ida Lee Britt Pringle and Geraldine Britt Sampson.
She leaves to cherish her memories five daughters, Barbara Jenkins and Florence Jenkins of Smoaks, South Carolina, Fannie Stokes (Felder) of Branchville, South Carolina, Amanda Elmore (George) of St. George, South Carolina, Jenell Brabham of Savannah, Georgia; two sons, Lucious Jenkins of Smoaks, South Carolina, and Samuel Jenkins (Kathy) of Orangeburg, South Carolina; twenty-five grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Sinclair Brown of Charleston, South Carolina; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
