Brenda Gail Green Obituary

Miss Brenda Gail “Suga Mama” Green was born on April 15, 1958, in Colleton County to the late Madge “Virginia” Green and the late Clyde Goodwin. She was lovingly raised by the late Mozon Melvin Mingo, whom she knew as her father. Fondly called “Red” by her friends and “Suga Mama” by her grandchildren and all the children who knew her, Brenda was a beacon of warmth and kindness. Brenda passed away peacefully at home on March 23, 2026, surrounded by the loving presence of her daughter, Bria Lasha Dickerson.

From an early age, Brenda’s athletic talents shone brightly. She was a skilled point guard wearing the number “14” for the Ruffin High School Patriots. She also excelled as a gymnast at her alma mater, RHS. Brenda’s love for sports earned her numerous accolades, including the title of Most Athletic. Many believe that if there had been a WNBA when she was coming up, Brenda Gail Green would have been a star in the league.

Brenda received her education through the public schools of Colleton County and proudly graduated from Ruffin High School in 1976. She continued her education at Voorhees College immediately after high school.

She worked many jobs throughout her life, spending over twenty years working at the Palmetto Boarding Home, among many others, with Pretium Packing being her last job before an injury caused her to go out on disability.

She was preceded in death by her beloved mother, Virginia Mingo; her father, Clyde Goodwin; her father- figure, Mozon Mingo, who raised her and whom she knew as her father; her brothers, Melvin Mingo, Joe Mingo, and Lawrence Goodwin; her brother-in-law, Stevie Wilson; her sister, Vernice “Tunkey” Wilson; her grandparents on both sides; and many other dear relatives.

She leaves behind a loving family who will cherish her memory forever.
