Carrie Sampson Obituary

Mrs. Carrie Jeanette Samuel Sampson, affectionately known as “Lil Sister” was born August 24, 1935 in Colleton County to the late Rev. James “JC” Samuel and the late Rachel Stokes Samuel. She entered into eternal rest on Monday, July 1, 2019 at Lexington Medical Center in West Columbia, South Carolina.  Home-Going Celebration will be held Saturday, July 6, 2019 at Red Root United Methodist Church, Ruffin, South Carolina at 1:00 p.m. Reverend James B. Grant II, Pastor and Eulogist.  Interment, Church Cemetery.  A public viewing will be held Friday, July 5, 2019 at the S-M-T Chapel of Serenity from 4:00 p.m - 8:00 p.m.  

She attended the public schools of Colleton County and graduated with the first graduating class of Ruffin High School, the class of 1953.

 She joined Mt. Olive A.M. E. Church in Smoaks, South Carolina at an early age where she accepted Christ as her personal Savior. Later, she moved her membership and joined Red Root United Methodist Church, Ruffin, South Carolina with her husband.

She served in many capacities in the church, Eastern Star and Job such as: Church Treasurer for over thirty years, Chairperson of Finance Committee, President of the United Methodist Women for many years, President of Usher Board for many years, and later Mother of the Usher Board, Chairperson and member of the Pastor Parish Relations Committee, Member of the Trustee Board, Member of Nominations Committee, and Member of the Senior Choir, Treasurer of Ruth Chapter O.E. S. #22 for over sixty years, later became a member of Willing Workers O.E. S. # 28, Bowman, South Carolina  and Treasurer of Sons and Daughters of Job # 96 for many years.

She was employed at Walterboro Dress Factory for thirty-two and a half years until her retirement in 1985, Southland Restaurant, Basket Factory of Walterboro, South Carolina and manager of Sampson Place Apartments of Orangeburg, South Carolina.

 She was preceded in death by her husband, James Wilson Sampson; a son, James “Tony” Sampson; her parents Rev. J.C and Mrs. Rachel Samuel; one sister, Anna Bell Sampson; one brother, James “Jack” Samuel.

 She leaves to cherish her memories three daughters, Minister Novice (Harry) Briggs, Terry Sampson both of Orangeburg, SC, and Gail (Dwight) Jones of Summerton, SC; nine grandchildren, Michael, Sharonda, Katrena, Danielle, Courtney, Kimberly, Melody, Zachery, and Toni; sixteen great grands; three great-great grands; one aunt, Redell Fields of Walterboro, SC; four sisters-in-law, Louise Fryar, Amie (Johnny) Green, Ozene (Harvey) Fryar of Ruffin, SC and Martha Johnson of Mt. Dora, Florida; God son, Mitchell Aiken, of Ruffin, SC; close family and friends, Freda and Larry Tuck, Larry and Warren “Fat” Sampson of Columbus, Ohio, and Mary Lou Black of Ruffin, SC of Ruffin, SC; and a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
