Charles Folk Obituary

“To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven: a time to be born, a time to die, a time to plant and a time to pluck up that which is planted.”  Ecclesiastes 3: 1-2

Charles Henry Folk, 77, was born on November 9, 1946, and transitioned to his eternal reward on Wednesday, April 3, 2024.

He began his spiritual journey in 1958 at the age of twelve, when he joined the McCune Branch Baptist Church in Lodge, South Carolina. Charles continued his Christian affiliation at Deliverance Praise Outreach Ministry in Walterboro, South Carolina, in 2017, and served faithfully until God called him home.

Charles attended Ruffin High School and later worked a number of short-term jobs before being diagnosed with a major heart condition he had unknowingly developed at birth. This diagnosis led to his opened heart surgery in 1985.

Charles was widely known throughout most of the Low Country of his birth-not because of worldly accomplishments, but because of the special blessings God instilled within him. He was especially blessed with an outgoing personality and a love for mankind, a keen sense of humor, and a full zest for life.

He never met a stranger. No matter where Charles traveled or who he encountered along the way, he would leave them with something to remember him by. Many knew him by a nickname. He was affectionately called “Little Myer” (a reference to his father), but there were many other nicknames – some too comical to mention here.

Drawing strength from the enduring love of his mother, the late Irene Mingo Folk, Charles never ventured far from her or the homeplace of his father, the late Myer Folk. He was their oldest and only son.

One of Charles proudest life moments was being blessed with his own family, which included two sons, Antonio Risher of Atlanta, Georgia, and Dexter Drain of Lodge, South Carolina; two daughters, Charlene Drain and Tyeshia Drain, both of Walterboro, South Carolina, and four grandchildren, Jasmine Risher, Khianna Risher, Deante Drain and Dashawn Drain.

Loving memories will be forever cherished by his three sisters, Marrine (Herbert) O’Conner of Augusta, Georgia, Evangelist Flossie  (Lawrence) Weans of Walterboro, South Carolina, and Minister Deloris (William) Berry of Rock Hill; his last surviving uncle, Earl (Marie) Mingo of North, South Carolina; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and all the special individuals God placed along his path at various stages of his life. Most noted were his Spiritual Advisory Pastor, Apostle Elizabeth Smith, and his support team; Brother Clarence Paige, Sister Jane Orr, and Deacon Michael Thomas, members of the Deliverance Praise Outreach Ministry, where he fellowshipped faithfully from 2017 to his last Joyful Celebration on the Sunday before his passing.

His Earthly journey has ended…
