Clara Ervin Obituary

Clara Speed Ervin, daughter of the late Christopher and Clara Speed was born on May 27, 1941, in Charleston, South Carolina. Named after her mother, she became known as Little Clara. On Saturday, June 27, 2026, in the comfort of her home, Clara transitioned to her eternal home.

Clara obtained her education from Charleston County Public School System, in Charleston, South Carolina.

Clara was a cherished and devoted member of Whitehall AME Church, under the anointed leadership of Pastor Courtney Colleton. Clara loved her Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ and did not mind telling the world about Him. She loved her family and lived a life filled with grace, kindness, and unwavering faith.

Although, she is no longer here physically, we know that to be absent from the body means to be present with the Lord. Clara was the Matriarch of her family, the glue that held it all together. Her meek and sweet spirit will forever live on through cherished memories. Her love and compassion touched everyone who knew her and will remain in the hearts of those who loved her.

Clara was preceded in death by her loving husband Albert Ervin, Sr.; two sisters, Julia Mae Busby and Miriam Taylor; two children, Albert Ervin, Jr. and Cheryl Y. Kelty.

She leaves to cherish her memories one son, Christopher D. Speed (Carole); two daughters, Cathy D. Lawson (Allen), and Gwendolyn M. Ervin (Sincere, Sr.), a granddaughter she adopted and raised as her own Sherekia Watson (Glenn Jr.); two siblings, Ethel Pettis, and Julius Speed Sr. (Margaret); nine grandchildren, Carsha Speed, Altraveasia Lawson, Altoria Lawson, Shiniqua Bryan, Dominique Watson, Sincere Watson, Jr., Demetrius Watson, Joshua Kelty, Jessica Kelty; nineteen great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; a special cousin, whom he loved dearly as a brother and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
