Cynthia Ann (Hicks) Drain, 73, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 19, 2025, at her home in Orangeburg, South Carolina. Born in Bennettsville, SC on April 21, 1951, Cynthia was the daughter of Flora Lee Hicks. She attended the public schools of Meriden, CT and graduated from F.T. Maloney High School. She also attended Wesleyan Community College in Middletown, Connecticut.
For most of her life, Cynthia lived in Connecticut where she worked for several years as a secretary/paralegal for John Papandrea & Associates Law Firm in Meriden, CT. Cynthia went on to work for 20+ years for the State of Connecticut – Department of Revenue. After retirement, Cynthia relocated to Walterboro, South Carolina where she enjoyed many years with her family. Cynthia was a great mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt. She was affectionately referred to as “Uncle Ann” by family members because of her tough love, straightforwardness, and brutal honesty.
Cynthia is survived by her son, Jabar (Cynthia) Drain; five grandchildren, Endayja Drain, Jamarra Drain, Jabbreah Drain, Kamal Morton, Amani Drain; two special kids in her life, Marcus Washington and Jaelen Stanford; and eleven great-grandchildren. She is also survived by two sisters, Juliette Hicks and Deborah (Azana) Washington; 4 brothers, Larry (Nixa) Hicks, George Washington, Michael Washington, and Brent Washington; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. She was predeceased by her mother and two brothers, Lester Hicks and Timothy Washington.
Though Cynthia has left this world, her memory and spirit will forever inspire and uplift those who were fortunate enough to know her. While she will be sorely missed, her love and the impact she made will never fade.
