Czkeya Inez McCray, affectionately known as “Maree,” was born on October 4, 1977, in Phoenix, Arizona, to Charles McCray, Sr., and the late Dolliene Lewis. She passed peacefully in her home on January 9, 2025, at the tender age of 47. Maree lived a life full of love, dedication, and resilience that touched the hearts of everyone who knew her.
Educated in the public schools of Colleton County, Maree was a proud member of the Walterboro High School Class of 1996. At the age of 12, she moved from Phoenix, Arizona, to Walterboro, South Carolina, which became her permanent home. From the young age of 15, Maree committed herself to public service and worked several jobs that allowed her to interact with the public, demonstrating unwavering dedication and compassion in every role she undertook.
Maree’s love for her family and friends was boundless. She was a bright light in the lives of her loved ones, making it her mission to share her affection and encouragement at every opportunity. Despite her health challenges stemming from kidney disease, which required treatments three days a week for the past 15 years, Maree never wavered in her positivity or determination. She proudly shared that she never missed a single treatment, regardless of how she felt, and constantly prayed for her caregivers, nurses, and doctors, whom she considered her extended family.
A social media enthusiast, Maree used her platforms to stay connected with friends and family. She was known for sharing her playlists, lottery numbers, pictures of family and friends, and most importantly, heartfelt messages of encouragement, reminding everyone daily to pray and “LIVE, LAUGH, LOVE.” Her daily posts inspired many to cherish life and embrace each day with gratitude.
She was preceded in death by her loving mother, Dolliene Lewis, whose memory Maree cherished for the past two years.
