Darlene Lynah Obituary

Darlene Denease Lynah, daughter of the late Christopher Lynah, Jr. and Mamie Elizabeth Simmons Lynah, was born November 26, 1959 in Walterboro South Carolina. She entered into eternal rest Tuesday, July 30, 2024 at White Oak Manor Nursing Home in Charleston, South Carolina.

EDUCATION

Darlene received her formal education in Colleton County and graduated from Walterboro High School in 1977. Upon graduating from high school, she attended Claflin University, Orangeburg, South Carolina where she graduated in 1981 earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Education and Health. She participated in many organizations including becoming a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority.

LIFE AND SERVICE TO GOD AND COMMUNITY

Darlene’s life and career was one of kindheartedness, perseverance, empathy, integrity, outspokenness, veracity...She was quite passionate about family, friends, her community and the safety of others. She chose to serve in the field of CriminalJustice. Her initial job in this area of work was a Dispatcher with the Colleton County Sheriff Department. Desiring to improve her skills and job levels, she attended the Criminal Justice Academy. Upon graduation from the academy, she worked for the City of Charleston Police Department as a deputy sheriff. Later shetransitioned to Lieber Correctional Institute in Ridgeville, South Carolina and retired from Ridgeland Correctional Institute, after 26 years of service.At an early age, Darlene joined the Jericho United Methodist Church. She served faithfully on the choir, and the United Methodist Women of Faith. She was also an active member of the Martin, Mitchell, Lynah, Bennett family Reunion.

HER FAMILY

Darlene was preceded in death by her father, Christopher Lynah, Jr.; one brother Gregory Lynah; two grandmothers, Alma Lynah and Felicia Williams Simmons; two grandfathers, Chris Lynah Sr. and Phillip Simmons; eight uncles and three aunts.

Darlene leaves to cherish fond and loving memories, her son Christopher Lynah, Sr. (Atira), Albany, NY; her daughter, Ashley Lynah, Orangeburg, SC; two grandchildren, Christopher Lynah, Jr., and Amiri Denease Lynah; her loving Mother, Mamie Elizabeth Lynah, and sister, Christine Lynah-Golden (Clifton), Cottageville, SC; Three brothers, Lieutenant Colonel (Retired) Phillip Lynah, Sr. (Jacqueline), Clinton, Maryland, Douglas Lynah (Donna), Ridgeland, SC, Hillie Lynah, Sr. (Latoya), Walterboro, SC; three aunts, Clara Williams, Walterboro, SC, Lottie Mae Coleman, Athens, GA, Margie Williams, Savannah, GA.; Special friend of family, LaRue Lynah, Teague, Texas; a God-daughter (niece), Felicia Golden, Fort Steward, GA; and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.Special recognition is given to lifelong special friends and family: Kimberly White-Footman, Sylvia Ford, Elizabeth Ellison, Judy Farmer-Menzie, Laquin Singleton,Lavern Patterson, Carolyn Washington, Shirley Tomlin, Nanette Walker, Virginia Mabel Brown, and Selma Odessa Brabham.
