Bobby Boatwright was born October 8, 1944 to the late Arthur and Janie Singleton Boatwright in Ruffin, South Carolina. He was the baby of this union.
A Time To Plant…
Bobby was educated in the public schools of Colleton County, graduating from Ruffin High School. At an early age Bobby accepted Christ in his life and joined Mount Zion Baptist Church of Ruffin, South Carolina. He later relocated to Harlem, New York and joined Christ Temple Baptist Church where he served on the Diaconate Ministry. When Bobby moved to Queens, NY he joined Eternal Love Baptist Church where he served on the Usher Ministry, Brotherhood Chorus, was Men’s Day Chairman and was ordained as a Deacon. Bobby was also a member of Prince Hall Joppa Lodge #55, for many years.
A Time To Love…
Bobby and Dicia met in High School where they both graduated and went their separate ways. While traveling years later, they reconnected with a courtship and married on October 23, 1971. To this union two daughters were born. Bobby was a devoted loving family man. He loved traveling with his family and friends. In his spare time Bobby would drive Charter Bus for different groups loving to interact with the people. His hobbies were bowling, puzzles and dedicated family time.
A Time To Pluck Up That Which Is Planted…
Bobby migrated to New York where he was employed as a delivery truck driver for a short time before starting his career with Steinway Transit / Queen Surface Corporation as a Bus Driver. Bobby retired from then MTA Bus Company in April 2005. Bobby continued driving bus for multiple Charter companies to remain occupied.
A Time To Weep And A Time To Mourn…
Bobby was preceded in death by his mother and father; spouse Dicia Salley Boatwright; brothers Ruben Boatwright, Harvey Elliot, Isaiah Coger and sister Princess E. Hardy. He leaves to cherish his memory daughters Princess Louise Boatwright and Lunetha Jeanne Kendall (Arnell), Queens, NY; sibling Precious Louise (Sam) Henderson of Teaneck, N.J.; Sallie Stephens of Ruffin, S.C. and Rosella (Richard) Robinson of Beaufort, S.C. special son David (Darlene) Salley of Huntington, NY; grandchildren Diondre Capri Kendall and Safia Naki McDonald of Queens, NY; special grandchildren Najheri and Nailah Salley of Huntington, NY; sister in-law Elvina Elliot of Ruffin, SC; goddaughters Michelle and Melissa Jones of Queens, NY. A host of special nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends
A Time To Die…
Bobby was ushered into eternal peace on February 1, 2025 where he is resting in the arms of Jesus. Bobby the father, grandfather, uncle, cousin and friend will affectionately be missed.
