She was educated in the public schools of Bronx, New York.  She was one of nine siblings and was a loyal friend and sister.  Her childhood was a colorful one and filled with many stories.  One story in particular was the Muhammad Ali rendition; she loved telling others how he picked her up and called her “pretty girl”

Deborah was married at an early age; however, separated several years later.  She was a strong woman. Regardless of the circumstances, she continued to stand firm in her commitment and faith through trials and tribulations.  With the help of Willie Sheftall, she raised a daughter and three sons.  She taught her children morals and values needed in order to sustain in this life.  Deborah was determined to make each day better for her family, and that she did.  She had no church affiliation; but, during her travels, she attended and worshiped with various ministries. Her faith in God always remained resilient.

She was preceded in death by brothers, Marvin Lucas and Gregory Waiters; a sister, Cassandra Moultrie.

She leaves to cherish her precious memories a daughter, Cheniqua Olease Flemmings of the home and sons, Kyron Errol Colon, Willie Charles Colon and Marcus Lee Sheftall all of Florence, South Carolina; grandson, Jayce Douglas; granddaughters, Shyasia Flemmings and Phoenixx Colon; sisters, Amy Shuford-Bennett of Greenville, South Carolina, Cynthia Shuford of Bronx, New York and Pamela Fitch of Marietta, Georgia; brothers, Ronald Lytle of Bronx, New York and William Cummings, Jr. of Middletown, New York and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives  and friends.
