Dennis Murray

Dennis Murray was born on August 21, 1945 in Elloree, South Carolina. He was the sixth child of Morris and Bertha Murray. God called Dennis home on April 26, 2020, where he passed away peacefully at the Bayonne Medical Center in Bayonne, New Jersey.

Graveside Service will be held Friday, June 26, 2020 at Belleville Memorial Garden, 2900 Belleville Road, Orangeburg, South Carolina at 11:00 a.m.  Reverend Dr. Ephriam D. Stephens, Eulogist.  

Dennis received his formal education in Orangeburg, South Carolina. He attended Duncan Elementary School. Dennis moved to New York, New York in 1957 where he continued his junior High and high school education.

He was employed by the City of New York in 1962, working on a Sanitation truck through the city. He drove trucks cross country for more than a decade. Eventually, settling down in Jersey City, New Jersey with his partner in life, Catherine. Dennis spent several years working for Plymouth Rock Trucking. He later moved on to Gold Coast Freightways of Avenel, New Jersey, retiring in 2013.

 Dennis was a loving partner, devoted father, great brother, and an awesome grandfather with a one of a kind spirit. He enjoyed long road trips and being with family and friends. He was one that anyone could call upon and would come with no worries. Friend and family alike knew that they were a phone call away from sage advice, a sip of Hennessy, or the occasional drive down I-95 South. "Big D" or "Uncle D," was the one that would always answer. He enjoyed talks in the kitchen, walking his dog Leche, listening to music and a good Spades game with the fellas. He was a treasure to us all, and he will be greatly missed.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Morris and Bertha Murray; brothers, John Henry and Willie (Joe) Murray; daughter, Iris Evans.

He is survived by his children, Dorian Davis, Donte Mack (Chrysis), Keenan Blanks (Amina), DeAnah Mack (James), Shiquan Mack (Tyquanna), Tiffany McClary, Gwendolyn McClary, Duane (Sheronda) McClary and Denise McClary;  children at heart,  Alphonso and Deborah McClary, Veronica (David)  Shivers; grandchildren, Shimir, NaZiyah and Amir Mack, Sajel Washington, Jaylen Downing. Chloe and Christian Blanks, Destiny and Morgan McClary, Jaron Fogle, Naisia, Qumane, DeShawn and Britany McClary, Brian Shivers and Alicia McClary; siblings, Queen Ester (Joseph), Birdie (Roosevelt) Glenn, Charlie (Dorothy) Murray, Donna (David) Adams, Dolores (Daniel) Lark, Roger (Cassandra) Murray, Dorothy Rivers, Roosevelt Fogle, and Willie Mae Johnson and a host nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
