Derrick Johnson Obituary

Derrick L. Johnson, born September 1, 1961 (59) in Brooklyn, New York to the late Sidney Johnson and Agnes Johnson-Lambert. Following an extended illness, he entered into his eternal rest on Thursday, May 6, 2021 in South Carolina.

He was educated in Brooklyn, New York Public School System until moving to Queens, New York where he attended and graduated from John Bowne High School. He also attended St. Johns University.

In his early years, he was a member of the Mt. Olive Baptist Church, where he was a member of the Youth Choir.

He started his life career at the early age of eighteen, at Chase Manhattan Bank in New York, New York. One that lasted for 20+ years until his retirement, but his thirst to continue in the workforce wouldn’t allow him to stop there. He soon acquired employment with Art and Leather, as a Sales Representative. However, with his charm, wit, dashing smile and brilliance, he quickly climbed the ladder and was given the opportunity to manage his own region in Maryland.

Derrick  always had a story to tell, advice to give and a joke to tell. He was a son, a husband, a father, a grandfather, a brother, an uncle, a classmate and a confidant. He was well known in the community and a friend to all that knew him.

After a long engagement, he married the love of his life, Juanita (Jenny) on March 8, 2017.

He was preceded in death by his father, Sidney Johnson.

Derrick leaves behind two sons from a previous marriage, Shaun Johnson (Julie) of Maryland and Terrance Johnson (Debbie) of Maryland. He and Juanita shared four children, Brandon (Charlmaine) of Queens, New York, Kristina of Queens, New York, Jasmine (Sosa) of Union, New Jersey and Natasha of Brooklyn, New York; his beloved grandchildren, Mia Johnson, Natalie Otero, Nazir Harden, Charles Johnson, Autumn Harden, Lenox Johnson, Otilia Johnson, Michael Johnson, Jacob Sosa, Brandon Johnson Jr., a boy and girl set of twins due in August to Brandon and Charlmaine; a God son, Anthony Robinson (Chloe) of New York;  one brother, Tyson Ransom (Leslie)of Georgia, six sisters,  Samantha Ransom (Mike) of Georgia, Tonya Ransom of Georgia, Sharon Johnson of New York, Theresa Daniels (Leon) of South Carolina, Teris Johnson of South Carolina, Sharii Brown of New York; two sisters-in-law, Nancy Nazario of New York, Sandra Nazario (William) of New York; a brother-in-law, Carlos Nazario of New York; two aunts, Gertrude Bryant of South Carolina, Arlene Jenkins of Queens, New York and an endeared cousin, Harold (Randy) Bryant of South Carolina  along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends
