Dolliene Lewis Obituary

Our dear mother and sister Dolliene Sonnetta Lewis affectionately known as Mama, Nana, and Big Red was the daughter of the late Dollie Lewis and Wilsie Maree Lewis.  She was born in Charleston, South Carolina on December 4, 1956. She spent most of her early years in Many Farms, Arizona.

She graduated in 1974 from Chinle High School in Chinle, Arizona. After graduation, Dolliene attended Mesa Community College in Mesa, Arizona. She later married and moved to Phoenix, Arizona and returned home to Walterboro, South Carolina in 1986. She sadly and unexpectedly departed this life on Friday, November 4, 2022 at the tender age of 66.

In her early adult years, she attended Wesley United Methodist Church where her mother was an active member and St. Paul CME Church where her granddaddy Sankey Maree was a faithful and active member. After returning to Walterboro in 1986, Dolliene assisted with the family business, Maree’s Taxi as a dispatch. In 1993, she graduated from the Technical College of the Lowcountry with an associate’s degree in early childhood education. She also worked several customer service jobs before retiring as a result of a vision impairment. She was a wonderful mother, sister, and friend who was always there when you needed her. She has many friends and was a well-loved member of the Walterboro and Orangeburg communities.

Left to cherish her memories are her two daughters: Czkeya “Maree” McCray (life-friend Shaun Glover) and Wilsey (Cornelius) Hamilton. Her two sons: Charles (Stephanie) McCray and Kaleef “Lewis” (Camika) McCray. Three brothers: Dollie Joe Mims, Fredrick Lewis, and Leonard (Wanda) Lewis. Life Sister: Harriette (Johnny) Griffin. One aunt: Caroline Fryar. Nieces raised as daughters: Janie “Lykenia” Hudson and Monique Memminger. Grandchildren: Keyona Grant, Canelia McCray, Da’Zhaniya Stroman, Devar Frasier, Kaliah McCray, Charles McCray, IV, Amari Hamilton, Nyem McCray, Brian Hamilton, Bryson Robinson, and Abigail McCray. Three great grandchildren: Kamora Grant, Karter Grant, and Kaiden Kershaw. Two nieces: Crystal Lewis and Taneisha Lewis. Two Nephews: Frederick Lewis, Jr and Tarvaris Lewis. A very special friend that she treated like a daughter, Ms. Tiffany Elliott and a host of cousins, other relatives, and friends.
