Earl Campbell Obituary

Earl Campbell was born in Cottageville, South Carolina to the late Laurie Campbell, Sr. and Florence Campbell on July 10, 1949. God called Earl home into eternal rest on May 14, 2020 at his home in Cottageville, South Carolina.  Graveside Service will be held Thursday, May 21, 2020 at 12:00 noon at Macedonia Community Cemetery, 1027 McDanieltown Road, Ridgeville, South Carolina.  Reverend David Washington, Pastor and Eulogist.  A public viewing will be held Wednesday, May 20, 2020 at the Stephens-Maree-Tracy Chapel of Serenity from 4:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m.

Earl accepted Christ at an early age. He was a member of Macedonia United Methodist Church, along with his wife, Laquinta Campbell. Earl served faithfully as Administrative Council and Finance Chairman, a member of the United Methodist Men, served as trustee, sang on the senior and Male choirs faithfully, and served as an usher for many years.

He received his education in the Colleton County School District. He was employed as a brick mason for the majority of his life. He worked for Transouth where he transported patients to and from medical appointments for many years. Later, he drove for Tucker's Adult Health Daycare, where he worked until he became ill.

Earl was joined in holy matrimony with Laquinta Simmons for thirty-two years. To this union, two sons, Quinton and Earl Jr. were born.

He was  very humble and quiet spirited. He enjoyed the simpler things in life. He loved to read his Bible and attend church services. He enjoyed the life of a "family man." Earl was known as the "Mr. Fix It Man" of the neighborhood. He loved to build and fix things with his hands. His warm and easy going personality touched the lives of many in his community.

Earl was preceded in death by his parents, Florence and Laurie Campbell, Sr.

He leaves to cherish his memories a loving and devoted wife, Laquinta Campbell of Cottage, South Carolina; two sons, Quinton Campbell, "Buddy," and Earl Campbell, Jr. "EJ," both of Cottageville, South Carolina; a niece raised as a daughter, Shanice Ellis, "half-pint," of Cottageville, South Carolina; five sisters, Essie Lee Brown, Lillie Washington, Sarah Bell Gilmore, all of Cottageville, South Carolina, Rebecca Heyward of Kentucky, Amy Gamble (Frank) of Pennsylvania; one brother, Matthew Campbell of Cottageville, South Carolina; three brothers-in-law, George Simmons, Johnnie Smith and Dale Simmons, all of Cottageville, South Carolina; two sisters-in-law, Natasha Ellis of Cottageville, South Carolina and Della Campbell of Texas; a special niece, Francine Heyward of Cottageville, South Carolina; two special nephews, Julius Campbell (Menetha) of Cottageville, South Carolina and Ernest Campbell (Joyce) of North Carolina and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
