Edward Byrd was born February 13, 1950 in Bishopville, South Carolina to his mother the late Lorene Corbett Byrd, and father the late Eselle Sidney March. God softly called Mr. Edward Byrd a cherished husband, father, grandpa, brother, uncle cousin, friend and community member, whose warmth, friendliness, and consistent encouragement touched the lives of many from labor to reward on May 3, 2024.
At an early age he accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and personal Savior.
Mr. Edward Byrd was affectionately known as Byrd, Bum, or Bum Byrd. He was educated in Bishopville, South Carolina and held professional certifications from Clemson University, and a few Community Colleges. Byrd was never afraid of hard work and immediately after high school, he worked at Reeves Brothers, followed by International Papers, Kendall, Corbett Exterminating, Boatwright Funeral Home and served as a volunteer Firemen at the Bishopville Fire Department. For 15 years he worked for the City of Bishopville where he retired.
Mr. Byrd was a Bishopville City Councilman for eight years, passionate about ways to make the community a better place for all families. He enjoyed advocating for local initiatives, listening to the concerns of his constituents, or simply agreeing to disagree on important matters that impact the lives of others. His wittiness, supportive and kind-hearted nature endeared him to everyone he met. He was an excellent listener and provided wise counsel to his family and friends. His legacy of love, support, and hard work will continue to inspire us all.
In addition to his family, he loved hunting, fishing, grilling, music, dancing,and riding around in his truck talking to community members. Mr. Byrd approached life, his family and community with patience, compassion and optimism.
Mr. Byrd was proceeded in death by brothers, Willie Byrd, Henry Byrd, Cloudy Byrd; cousins, TJ Mickel, Janie Mickens, Willie Rob Jenkins, Sarah Mae Wilson, and Dick Lee Corbett, and grandson, Zaki Lovely.
Mr. Byrd is survived by his wife, Patrica Lovely Byrd; daughters, Dr. Naikia Byrd- Atkinson (Daryl Atkinson), Crystal Harris, stepson, Manzie Lovely; stepdaughter, Felicia “Lisa” Moses; grandchildren, Adalyn Atkinson, Brianna Marshall, Samir Toney, Jadin Toney, Reverend Teshawn Fulton, Takana Charles, Kimaya Davis (Thomas) Stoveall; brother, Norman Benn; sisters-in-law Linda Byrd, Sheila Byrd, Jeanette Byrd, MonaRae Yasmein Ghafur; brother-in-law, John (Mary) Myers; one cousin/sister, Inez Anderson, and a host of nephews, nieces, and cousins who will cherish his loving memories and the impact of his legacy.
Though he may no longer walk among us, his spirit will forever live on in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know him.
