James David Adams was born on March 12, 1957, to James Adams and Mary Lou Padgett in Philadelphia, PA. He spent most of his time growing up with his grandparents, Henry and Marie Padgett in Baltimore, MD and Ritter, SC. James was educated in Colleton County schools. He also attended Benedict College and the University of South Carolina in Columbia, SC. James held multiple positions thought his career from a fire warden with SC Forestry Department, independent owner operator truck driver, and when he retired in 2021 a truck driver with Charleston Water Systems.
James was a lover of the outdoors. He had a passion for hunting and fishing. James was also an avid collector of antiques and a lover of history and politics. In 1999, James served on Colleton County Council as a Councilman for the Eastern District for four years.
James married Martha Hopkins on January 1, 1981. From this union, two children were born, Esther and Joshua.
James was a devoted bible scholar, always striving to go deeper in the word of God. He taught Sunday School, was an ordain Minister and Elder with the Church of Our Lord Jesus Christ. He was a member of Elizabeth Church of Our Lord Jesus Christ under the leadership of Bishop Anderson Williams, Ellis Temple Church of Our Lord Jesus Christ under the leadership of his uncle, Elder Charles Bright, and at the end of his life Moncks Corner Church of Our Lord Jesus Christ under the leadership of District Elder Samuel Spann.
On Thursday, September 5, 2024, our precious Lord called James to his eternal rest. James is survived by his wife, Martha Hopkins Adams of Walterboro, SC; his daughter Esther Adams of Summerville, SC; his son Joshua Adams of Huger, SC; one daughter-in-law Crystal Sanders Adams of Huger, SC; two sisters Naomi “Bonnie” Adams of St. Helena Island, SC; Jennifer Adams Sokol of Frederick, MD; one brother Malcolm Bright of Green Pond, SC; three brothers-in-law David Hopkins and Bruce Hopkins of Columbia, SC and Jonathan Hamilton of San Antonio, TX; five sisters-in-laws Connie Hopkins, Margaret Hopkins, Patricia Hopkins and Gwen Hopkins of Columbia, SC and Jeanette Bright of Green Pond, SC and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
