Ernest Leroy Bowers, Jr.

Mr. Ernest Leroy Bowers, Jr. son of the late Ernest Bowers, Sr. & Shirley Myers Bowers, was born on December 07, 1937 in Green Pond, SC.  On December 22, 2025, Ernest traded time for eternity and departed from this earthly shore.  He was reared in Colleton County and was affectionately known as, “Junior,” by his family and friends.  He was educated in the Colleton County School District. At an early age, he enlisted into the Army and the Marines, where he served diligently.  He was employed by the New York City Transit Authorities, in which he worked for thirty-three years and then retired.  

On June 18, 1966, he was joined in holy matrimony to the love of his life, Patricia Booker.  To this union, three children were born; Kevin, Brian, and Reginald.  He was a member of a singing Quartet and has a passion for hunting and fishing.  He also enjoyed working in his garden annually and often shared the fruits of his labor with family, friends and neighbors. He had a vivid memory and was the “historian” of the family.  

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Shirley Bowers, his wife, Patricia Bowers (father and mother in law) and their son, Kevin Bowers; his siblings,  George, Eve, Tom, David, Annell, Christopher, Thurmond, and Clotine.

A lifetime of memories will forever be cherished by his children, Redelma (Fred) Saxby of Walterboro, SC; Carlton (Clarissa) Burroughs of New York City, NY, Loretta Gadson of West Orange, NJ, Brian and Reginald Bowers of Queens, NY; Grandchildren,  Sheree’, Kenneth (Kewanna), Derrick, Thomas, Olivia, Nicholas and Corey;  Great-grandchildren,Kenyatta, Ja’Miya, Kenneth, Jr. and Kendall;  Brothers,  Donald and Charles Bowers of Green Pond, SC, and Kenneth (Laverne) Bowers of Cleveland, TN;  Sister, Lou A. Smalls of Fort Lee, NJ, Shirley (Jesse) Foster of St. Louis, MO, Eva Poole of Marlton, NJ, Kathy Patterson of Monroe, NC and Dr. Mary (Joseph) Alexander of Silver Spring, MD; One sister-in-law, Debra Bowers of Green Pond, SC and a host of special nieces, nephews, cousins and friends, and special friend, Herman Magwood.
