Evella Monica Nesmith Obituary

Evella Monica Renee Nesmith, affectionately known as “Renee” and “Aunt Na-Na” was born on November 21, 1968 in Walterboro, South Carolina. She was the second child of the late Leemaih Nesmith Sr. and Florence Nesmith. On Friday, February 27, 2026, a precious flower was hand pick for the “Heavenly Garden”. At that moment, Renee heard those welcoming words from the Lord! Well done, thy good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your Master’s happiness.

She was a 1988 graduate of Walterboro High School. She worked in the medical field for several years followed by owning a home daycare “Jus Friends Daycare”. Leading up to her transition, she was employed with LCAA Early / Head Start as a “Family Service Advocate” which she greatly enjoyed.

Known to many as Renee, she was a true beacon of light and a treasure to behold. Renee loved her siblings, nieces, nephew, great nieces and great nephews beyond words. If you knew her, you knew you rarely saw her without one of them.

Renee worked faithfully and diligently as a member of Red Bank United Methodist Church until her health declined. She was the church secretary, youth leader, dress coordinator andchoir member. For many years she wore many hats in her family and in the community. She would give anyone the shirt off her back and the shoes off her feet. There was nothing she wouldn’t do if asked. Two of her favorite sayings, “Give Me My Flowers While I Can Smell Them” and “All is Well”!

She was preceded in death by her parents, Leemaih Sr. and Florence Nesmith; Aunts Azalee Kelly, Effie Hicks, Valerie Nesmith, Nellie McCloud, Elizabeth  Moses, and Leeviner Williams; and Uncles, James Brown Sr., Jerome Brown, Willie Brown Sr., Willie Smith, Henry Nesmith, Chester Logan, Willis Kelly, Bobby Moses, Harold Williams, and Johnny Morales.

She leaves to cherish her precious memories; a niece who was like a daughter, Ebony Nesmith of Walterboro, SC; Siblings, Leemaih (Marjorie) Nesmith, Jr., Charlotte, North Carolina, Karen Nesmith-Holmes, Stacy Nesmith, and Senekita (Robert) Farmer all of Walterboro, South Carolina; nieces and nephews, Essence Jordan (God-Daughter), Joia Jones, Shakera Nesmith (God-Daughter), Alicia Mincey, Winter Williams (God-Daughter), Justin Williams (God-Son), Kayla Mincey, Dominique Moore, Alexis Mincey and Sincere Owens; great-nieces and great-nephews, Bralynn Washington, Lauryn Russell, Ava Jones, Amora Rivers, Kenslee Johnson, Carmelo Russell, Terris Stephens, Karter Russell, Teagan Stephens, Kimora Barnett, Tyriq Stephens, and awaiting the special arrival of “Kobe Jenkins”; God- Mother, Renee Edwards; God-Daughter, Katura Williams; Uncle, Gilbert (Mary) Nesmith; Aunts, Mary Alice Morales, Ruth (Addison) King, Rebecca Nesmith- Logan, Catherine Williams, Elease Brown, and Mary Francis Brown; a special aunt, Elizabeth Setti; special cousins, Veronica Clayton Swinson, Angie Salley, Toya Wallace and Wendy Blakeney; special friends, Tara Glover and Rosalee Simmons; and a host of other relatives and friends.
