Florrie Bell Ford was born July 19,1921 to the late Joseph and Virginia Green on Toomer Hill, a small community in Walterboro, SC. She was the third child in a family of six children: Lovie, Roger, Abraham, Josephine, and Elizabeth.
Florrie departed her long earthly life on early Saturday morning, September 21, 2024, at MUSC, Charleston, SC with her family by her side. Despite her age, she was blessed with good health for most of her 103 years.
At an early age she became a member of Saint John Baptist Church where she served as a choir member. She attended faithfully for many years until her health began to fail.
In 1937 Florrie married Edward Ford, Sr. To this union ten children were born: Lue Bertha, Carrie, Ada, Edward, Jr., Aretha, Richmond, Amos, Robert, Eugene and Cynthia.
Florrie was affectionately known as “Momma” to the children in her family and many more. She took care of them along with her own. She loved to cook and wouldn’t stop cooking until everyone was fed. She always strived to see the good in everyone and every situation. She was a teacher to many who needed her wisdom and guidance. She was a strong, caring, fair woman who became a pillar in her community.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her son Edward, Jr.; her husband, Edward Ford; her daughter, Carrie; and all five siblings.
Left to cherish her precious memories are her eight children: Lue Bertha, Ada, Aretha, Richmond (Isabelle), Amos (Shirley), Robert (Rosa), Eugene, and Cynthia. As her health began to fail, Cynthia took care of her mom relentlessly through all her ups and downs. Florrie will also be missed by 38 grandchildren, 51 great grandchildren, 24 great-great grands, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
