Gladyes Mayes Bailey Obituary

Mother Gladyes Bee Mayes Bailey was born on  December 24, 1938, the oldest of eight children  to David and Ada Mayes  in Grover, SC. She entered into eternal rest on Sunday, October 30, 2022 at Life Care Center in Hilton Head Island, SC.

Mother Bailey grew up in the St. George community. She received her education from the public schools of Dorchester County, District Four.  She attended Williams Memorial High School in St. George, SC.

In 1963, she was united in Holy Matrimony to Prince Bailey, to this union, they had one child.

Mother Bailey accepted Christ early in life. She joined Red Bank United Methodist Church in Walterboro, SC. She later, moved to Smoaks, SC. She then joined Bethel United Methodist Church where she attended and served faithfully until her health declined. She was a faithful and dedicated member of the Mass Choir and the Mother of the Jr. and Intermediate choirs of Bethel. She was a humble and loving person who truly loved the Lord and did not mind giving God the Praise. She was always very supportive of the church and whatever auxiliary she participated in.

She was preceded in death by her parents, David and Ada Mayes; her husband, Prince Bailey;  two sisters, Helen and Evelyn Dixon; and two brothers, Nathaniel and Ulysses Mayes.

She leaves to cherish her memories: A loving daughter, Evelyn Simmons of Savannah, GA;   three grandchildren, Toni (Brandon) Rhone-Brown of Florence, SC, Tremar Rhone of Hardeeville, SC and Terrell Bryan of Savannah, GA; one great-grand, Brayden Brown; three siblings, Mr. James Mayes of Daytona Beach, FL, Mr. Johnnie (Sylvia) Mayes of Houston, TX and Mrs. Ella Rae (George) Miles of Holly Hill, FL.;  two special nieces Eartha Bennet and Shirley Haynes; A devoted and dedicated Special Friend Luella Linder; special angels who she loved dearly, Rosalee Simmons, Bobbie Wiggins,  Dellaine Mosley, and  Brooklyn Alexander and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
