Harold Mikel, 87, of Green Pond, South Carolina was born on February 22, 1935, to the late Mr. Frank Mikel and Ms. Estelle Britt. He was raised by his "de facto parents" Mr. Elliott and Ms. Sallie Wilson. He departed his earthly life on Tuesday, August 16, 2022 at his residence, in Green Pond, South Carolina.
Mr. Mikel was educated in the public schools of Colleton County. Upon graduation, he joined the United States Army during the Korean War. Having served his country for many years, he was honorably discharged.
In the early seventies, Mr. Mikel was gainfully employed with Colleton County. His career with the county expanded more than forty years before his retirement. Simultaneously, he owned Mikel's Janitorial Service. For more than forty years, he was the Custodial Engineer for Enterprise Bank, Carmichael Oil, USDA, Press and Standard, Title One and various local churches.
He loved helping people. He loved his community and he loved his local church, Mt. Olive A.M.E.
Mr. Mikel was preceded in death by his parents and his youngest son.
He leaves to cherish his memories; his devoted wife, Rosa Mae Mikel; Son, William Harold Mikel; four daughters, Dr. Aletha Whitlock (Raymond), of Lugoff, South Carolina, Sarah Murray of Walterboro, South Carolina, Sacaqawea Williams of Beaufort, South Carolina and Evelyn Gadson (Frank) of Sylvania, Georgia; several step-children; grandchildren; great grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.
