On January 8, 2025, Jamal was taken unimaginably, leaving behind a legacy of love and cherished memories that will never be forgotten Born on April 28, 1988, in Walterboro, South Carolina, to Myrna Edmonson and Kip Black, Jamal was raised in Colleton County, where he attended Colleton County schools where he enjoyed being on both the basketball and baseball teams. He later graduated with his GED from Wil Lou Gray Opportunity School. Throughout his life, Jamal worked diligently, most recently with Landmark Construction.
Jamal was preceded in death by his father, Kip Black, and grandfathers James Breland and Vernon Black, whose love and influence shaped the man Jamal became.
Jamal's passion for his children, street racing, cars, and his love for dogs were all defining parts of who he was. His energy and joy for life were infectious, and his personality lit up every room he entered. Jamal's memory will forever be cherished by his family, friends, and all those who had the privilege of knowing him.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his children: JaMiyah (Mya) Edmonson, Jamir Hills-Edmonson, Jamal Edmonson II (Mally), Peyton Edmonson, Khylie Ferguson (Toot), and Ava J. Edmonson
His mother, Myrna Smalls (Keith) of Yemassee, SC, also grieves the loss of their son. Jamal is further survived by his grandparents, Norma Chisolm and Janie Black, both of Walterboro, SC; Bennie (Gloria) Smalls of Yemasse, SC: sisters, Tivia Wright of Yemassee, SC, and Latosha Stephens of Philadelphia, PA; and four brothers, Vincent Wright II (VJ) of Yemassee, SC, Jarvise Jenkins, Keenan Black and Tareek Smalls all of Walterboro, SC, and Kehlani Smalls of Reidsville, Georgia. Aunts, Monique Edmonson of Stockbridge, GA, Tawana (Donnel) Russell of Columbia, SC and LaSahwn (Willis) Thompson of Yemasse, SC; uncles, Steve, Darryl (Gail),and Montrell all of Walterboro, SC and Oshun Black of Patterson, NJ. One special uncle who was like a father to him, Marion Capers of Islandton, SC; Three special cousins raised in the home, Sherrick (Jessica), Phillip and Trey Capers. One Godson, KeMiyre Mitchell of Walterboro SC. A few cherished friends, including Jermaine, Devontea, Quan, and Briana, as well as many nieces, nephews, great-aunts and uncles, cousins, and others who will forever carry his memory in their hearts.
