In the tranquil embrace of time, we celebrate the life of Jamella Maree, a radiant spirit born on August 31, 1982, who graced our world until she transitioned into heavenly rest on December 27, 2025. She was the baby girl and cherished daughter of Georgia W. Jones and the late James A. Maree, whose love and guidance shaped her remarkable path.
Jamella, affectionately known as “Mella”, was educated in the welcoming halls of Colleton County schools. She excelled academically, consistently demonstrating a passion for learning and a commitment to academic excellence. As a natural scholar, she embraced challenges with enthusiasm, often going above and beyond to deepen her understanding of subjects. Her dedication culminated in her graduation from Walterboro High School with honors in the class of 1999.
Following her high school years, Jamella pursued her dream of making a difference in the lives of young children by studying Early Childhood Education at Columbia College. There, she not only excelled as a student, but also became a role model to her peers by inspiring them with her strong work ethic and belief in lifelong learning. Her thirst for knowledge continued as she transferred to the University of South Carolina, Salkehatchie, where she furthered her education and passion for teaching others.
Above all, Jamella understood her role as a helper. She began fulfilling her purpose as a caregiver when she joined Colleton Medical Center staff as a Certified Nurse Aid. She later moved to Columbia, SC and continued to diligently work as a CNA at the Medical University of South Carolina Health. When COVID brought the world to a crawl, Jamella began to nurture her dormant talents as a “creative”. She began “Made by Mella” and launched a second career as an entrepreneur. Her creative designs impressed her customers, and her business grew through word of mouth. Most recently, she expanded her business as a party vendor providing services for special events.
Jamella was the life of the party. She loved scrolling through social media and spending time with her siblings. She was known for sending a text or calling to check on her family and friends. Every chance she had she found a way to reach out to and connect with those she loved.
Jamella leaves behind her love of 23 years Ivory Brothers, Jr.; four children, Norianno (Kimsha) Maree, Shakiah Maree, Ivory Brothers III, and Jamari Brothers, all of Columbia, SC; two grandchildren, Treasure Maree and Kimelah Maree, both of Columbia, SC; mother, Georgia (James) Jones of Walterboro, SC; four sisters, Tia (Dennis) Stephens of Yemassee, SC, LaToya (Dyral) Fox of California, MD, Casey (Gerald) Williams of Savannah, GA, and Janice (James ) Emerson of Savannah, GA; one brother, James (Leann) Maree II of Summerville, SC; father-in-love, Ivory “Buck” Brothers, Sr. of Cottageville, SC; two sisters-in-love, Tammy (Tyron) David of Walterboro and Erica Brothers of Cottageville, SC; several nieces and nephews, and a multitude of aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
