Jerry Henderson Obituary

Mr. Jerry Lee Henderson was born on January 9, 1954, in Walterboro, South Carolina, to the late Stephen B. Henderson and Edna Ruth Adams Henderson. He departed this life on Thursday, February 12, 2026 leaving behind a legacy of faith, service, and devotion to family.

Jerry was educated in the Colleton County School System and graduated from Ruffin High School in 1972.

At an early age, he became a faithful and dedicated member of Oakman Branch Baptist Church. Throughout the years, Jerry served diligently in many capacities, including Senior Usher Board President, Mass Choir and Male Chorus member, Finance Treasurer, Trustee Board member, OBMBC Brotherhood member, and as a member of the Oakman Branch Memorial Garden Committee. His commitment to his church family was unwavering.

Jerry was employed at Asten and Johnson as a machine operator until the company’s closure. He later worked with the Colleton County School District at Cottageville Elementary School as a member of the custodial staff. Continuing in his father’s footsteps, he was also employed by Colleton County Solid Waste at the Ruffin Site.

On April 26, 1973, Jerry was united in holy matrimony to Sheldonia Fryar. Their loving union endured for 52 years and was blessed with three children.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Allen Henderson; and one grandson, Joshua Brown.

He leaves to cherish his precious memories: his devoted wife, Sheldonia Henderson; five daughters, Lavonica Jones, Katina Brown, Melanie Henderson,Hon. Sophia T. Henderson, and Carissa Henderson; one son, Tico Jones; five grandchildren: Kendle Jones, Kavon Jones Salley Christian Singleton, Olivia Brown-Green, and Taylor Singleton, four great-grandchildren; two brothers, Willie B. Henderson (Elizabeth) and Theodore Henderson (Audrey); one sister, Gloria Campbell (Oliver); two brothers-in-law, Frankie Fryar (Laverne) and Kenneth Fryar; and four sisters-in-law, Dr. Leola Adams, Vonzola Adams, Beatrice Bright, and Dian Fryar along with a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and dear friends. 

Jerry’s life was a testament to dedication, humility, and love. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
