John Bennett passed away peacefully on February 14, 2023, at the age of 68, at Prisma Tuomey Hospital in Sumter, South Carolina. He was born July 31, 1954, in Elmira, New York to the late Francis and Martha Bennett. John was a family man and a friend to so many and was connected to others through his love, kindness, twinkling blue eyes, infectious smile and sharp wit.
John grew up in Van Etten, New York, and graduated from Spencer-Van Etten High School. He worked at Schweizer Aircraft/ Sikorsky Aircraft for 40 years as Chief Shipping and Receiving Clerk. Shortly after beginning his job, he met his bride, Sherry, of 46 wonderful years. This union produced two amazing children, Jeremy and Jennifer, whom they mentored with love and pride. After retiring, John and Sherry moved to Sumter, South Carolina.
John was family oriented and had a kind kindred spirit. He was noble in mind and soul with a very generous attitude for helping others. He was a person totally devoted to a purpose or cause and never met a stranger. He was an avid outdoorsman and car enthusiast. He could fix anything and was always working in his beautiful yard. Many will miss John on his lawnmower working in his yard along with his lovely wife Sherry sharing the work.
John is survived by his loving wife Sherry, son Jeremy, daughter Jennifer, and son-in-law Eric; three beautiful and amazing granddaughters, Madison, Rheannan and Makaela, whom he loved with all his heart. He was also survived by his sister, Betty; brother, Henry and sister-in-law Linda, several nieces, nephews, relatives and friends who will miss him. He was preceded in death by his brother, Richard and his sister, Carol.
