Joseph Roger Ellerby

Joseph Roger Ellerby was born on October 6, 1960 to the late Mrs. Janie English Ellerby and the late Mr. Joseph Mack in Sumter County. He entered peacefully into eternal rest on Tuesday, April 9, 2025 at Prisma Health Richland, Columbia, South Carolina.

He attended the public schools in Sumter County and later graduated from Job Corp where he received an Architectural Certification at Morganfield Kentucky. Joseph later received a certificate in Healthcare at Central Carolina in Sumter, South Carolina.

Joseph was affectionately called Roddie by many. He was a carpenter for many years and he was known for his wonderful gardens that he grew. Joseph was a die- hard Denver Broncos fan ….”go Broncos”!

Joseph was a member of New Bethel Missionary Baptist Church where he enjoyed his Sunday School Class and hearing the word of God.

He was Preceded in death by his parents, Janie English Ellerby and Joseph Mack; a sister, Anna Odell Rayford and a brother, Maurice Richardson.

He leaves to cherish his memory his fiancée, Tonia D. Conyers of Sumter, South Carolina; four sisters. Willie Mae King, Waverly (William) Washington, Dorothy Delay of Sumter, South Carolina and Mary Frances Ellerby of Jacksonville, Florida; one brother, Leslie Ellerby of Sumter, South Carolina; two special cousins, Sedric Butler and Mary Ann; a best friend, Jacob Harvin, all of Sumter, South Carolina; one sister-in-law, Melissa Weeks Richardson of Sumter, South Carolina; his special children, Devan, Teona, Tyvae, Dazahn, Dakota, Dnahj, Teon, and Nariyah, along with the apple of his eye, Taylir Alexis, all of Sumter, South Carolina and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends whom he loved dearly.
