L. C. Hodges, the fifth child of the late Dennis and Corrie Britt Hodges, was born on April 14, 1926, in Colleton County, SC. He departed this life surrounded by his loving family on Thursday, February 6, 2020, in his home in Smoaks, South Carolina. Home-Going Celebration will be held Wednesday, February 11, 2020 at Bethel United Methodist Church, Smoaks, South Carolina. Reverend Jimmy Washington, Pastor, and Reverend Harry Jenkins, Eulogist. Interment, Old Miss Cemetery, Smoaks, South Carolina. A public viewing will be held Tuesday, February 11, 2020 from 4:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. at Stephens-Maree-Tracy Funeral Home Chapel of Serenity.
He was educated in the public schools of Colleton County. He married Quillie Mae in 1946 in Smoaks, South Carolina. Their union produced eight children. They fostered numerous children while in New York and two of those children, Sonny and Chanda, became a permanent part of their family.
He joined Bethel United Methodist Church at a young age. After leaving South Carolina, he and his family attended Southern Baptist Church in Brooklyn, New York.While residing in New York, L.C. founded Hodges and Sons Construction after co-owning Cement Finishers Inc. He was also skilled in farming, carpentry, plumbing, and electricity.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Quillie Mae; an infant daughter, Tawanna; his sons, James and Wayne; his grandson Ronald; nine siblings: X.E. Hodges, Louise Hodges Jenkins; Remus “Mem” Hodges, Alma Hodges Jenkins, John Dennis “JD” Hodges, Ruby Hodges, Charles Hodges, Roosevelt Hodges, and Clyde Hodges Sr.
He is survived by his son Christopher Hodges; his daughters, Theresa “Lois” McMillian (Norris), Harriet Nelson (Samuel), Gloria Hodges-Deans, and Darlene Hodges-Green (Sylvester); his godson J.B. Jenkins (Ruthamae); his grandchildren, Jacquelyn, Terri, Lisa, Anthony, Sharese, Delvon, Rasheen, Chontel, Tameka, Quarnell, Kia, Katherine, Jalil, Francis, LeVar, Beau, Jawan, Danessa, Damitria, Brandon and Kayla; his great-grandchildren, “Little” Anthony, Shawn, Chaneese, Candice, Ashley, Jamar, Jarel, Craig, Maya-Imani, Khalif, Alisiya, Jenaya, Khai, Kayvon, Asa, Laelah, Chloe, Tiahna, Anthony “Little Ant”, Quarnell Jr., Zaria, Adriana, Zoe, Lauren, Kamauri, Aniya, Rhea,Selene, Madison, Naomi, Nehemiah, Jordan, LeVar Jr., Jazaiah, Kylie and Aubrey; his great great-grandchildren, Trey, Zara and Nori; his sisters-in law Martha Hodges and Beatrice Hodges; special friends Arlene and Justin Cauley, a host of cousins, nieces,nephews,other relatives and friends.
