Lillie Washington Obituary

Lillie O. Washington, the daughter of the late Laurie and Florence Campbell, was born December 13, 1937, in Colleton County. Our Heavenly Father saw fit to call from labor to reward our beloved Lillie on Saturday, October 18, 2025, in the comfort of her home.

She grew up in the McDaniel Community and attended the public schools of Colleton County. At an early age she dedicated her life to Christ and became a loyal member of Macedonia United Methodist Church and served as a faithful member on the Senior Choir. She was a Sunday School Teacher for many years for the Youth Department, a member of the United Methodist Women, Vacation Bible School Teacher, the Summer Feeding program Coordinator, and served on several committees in the church. Lillie was recognized as the Mother of the Church on May 11, 2025. She was a member of  two gospel groups called the “The Southernettes” and  “The Campbell Sisters.”

Lillie loved flowers and enjoyed fishing. She loved her three cats, Lovey, Marlow, and Little Bit. She was very passionate about aiding to the sickly and elderly. She was employed with Transportation medical Service, Inc. (TMSI) in Walterboro, South Carolina.

She was united in Holy Matrimony to the late Joseph Washington. 

She was preceded in death by her son, Julius Campbell; her parents, Laurie and Florence Campbell; her seven siblings, sisters, Essie L. Brown, Annie M. Nebo, and Corretha Gethers; brothers, Asberry, VonLee, Laurie, and Earl.

She leaves to cherish many wonderful memories, three daughters, Evangelist Selma Brabham (Lavon)  of Hampton, South Carolina, Priscilla Hill (Ralph) of Milledgeville, Georgia, and Beverly Lewis of Gaston, South Carolina; two sons, Robert Washington (Rosita) of Tucson, Arizona, and Jerrime Washington (Keisha) of Columbia, South Carolina; six grandsons, Devon Brabham (Angela) of Stone Mountain, Georgia, Robert Washington, Jr., of Tucson, Arizona, Javian Brabham of New York, New York, Tyre Washington of Tucson, Arizona, Raphael Battle (Cheyenne) of Loganville, Georgia, Darren Lewis, Jr., of Gaston, South Carolina; five granddaughters, Amonica Campbell of Cottageville, South Carolina, Tywanna White (Jacobi) of Walterboro, South Carolina, Shanequa Harrington of Statesville, North Carolina, Makayla Washington of Summerville, South Carolina and Sanai Washington of Charleston, South Carolina; eleven great-grands, Azion and Isreal White, Azyriua Washington, Emori Washington, Adarien Lomax, Zyla Corbett, Demin Washington, Ryan and Reese Battle, Zyre and Zaden Washington; four siblings, three sisters, Sarah Bell Temple (Harvey) of Cottageville, South Carolina, Rebecca Heyward of Walterboro, South Carolina and Amy Gamble (Frank) of Fayetteville, Pennsylvania; one brother, Matthew Campbell of Cottageville, South Carolina; daughter-in-law, Monetha Campbell of Cottageville, South Carolina; two sisters-in-law, LaQuinta Campbell of Cottageville, South Carolina, and Delia Campbell of San Antonio, Texas; two special adopted grandchildren, Brianna Haynes, and Anthony Patterson and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
