Litterrea Angeline Givens, affectionately known as “Mother Givens” granny or mama”, the daughter of the Late Winston Edwards and Litterrea Akins Stephens Edwards, was born on Monday, May 8,1933, in Walterboro, South Carolina. God called his angel home on March 11, 2025, in Columbia, South Carolina.
She was the third of four children. She received her formal education in the schools of Colleton County and graduated from Ruffin High School in 1953. Her desire to advance in her career and in
life prompted her to take a career as a seamstress and nurse. In addition, to help share the workload of her sharecropper parents. The Givens family attended and was a member of Bethel #5 Pentecostal Church, Ruffin South Carolina under the leadership of Bishop Lun Green. She served the Bethel ministries and the
Southern District New Covenant Fellowship until her death for 72 years of membership. There, she participated as a Sunday School Teacher, Usher for 47 years and sang in the choir. Currently, under the leadership of Pastor Sam Drain. Let it be noted that Mother Givens loved and cherished her church family and pastor. She knew she was called to be an Evangelist and helped further the gospel. Mother sends a special thanks and love to Apostle Gwendolyn Taylor and Pastor Willie Taylor and the church family of Miracle Deliverance Outreach Ministry, Columbia, South Carolina.
In 1952, she met the love of her life, James Howard Givens. They were married on September 29,1954. They enjoyed life together among the communities of families and friends.Mother Angeline’s God-like character was what anyone who knew her felt. Even though she was soft-spoken, witty and a truth teller, people knew there was something different about her. Mother loved people and her family. A great encourager and listener.
This resourceful and extremely intelligent mother of eight, had a deep determination to provide for her family and worked extremely hard to make sure her children grew up in a Christ-centered home with all the love any mother could provide.
She was proceeded in death by three of her siblings, Catherine Stephens Adkinson, Leon Edwards, and Willie Lee Edwards, and children, James Ashley Givens, Billy Givens, Robin Givens, PastorMelinda Badger, Gloria Brown and Crystal Givens.
Treasured memories are forever in the hearts of her biological children, Daphne Givens of Columbia, South Carolina, Serena McClary (Bishop Julius McClary) of Kissimmee, Florida, Colisa Givens, of Ruffin, South Carolina, James Russell, of Walterboro, South Carolina, Judy Hodges, of Walterboro, South Carolina; 29 Grandchildren, 22 Great Grand Children, 4 Great-Great Grands. Sister-In-Law: Janie Jamison Edward of Lodge, South Carolina; Special in-home Grands: Shantez Givens, Brandon Givens and Brian Givens; Special Nieces: Orgie Ruth Mitchell and Ophia Myers; Special Mother-daughters: Apostle Elizabeth Smith, Mildred Yates, Mable Broughton, Intercessor Jurelin SL Memminger; Adopted daughters: Omether Fryar, Sandra Pinkney, Ernestine Fryar, Catherine Fryar, Diane Berry and Dazzell Russell; daughters-in-law, Mary Givens and Sheiak Givens; Special adopted sister, Joann Fryar; Special daughter: Loretta Behling, and a host of beloved nieces, nephews, other relatives, friends, and fellow members of the Body of Christ.
