Lucille M. Jones, 96 of Stone Mountain Georgia was born in Colleton County, South Carolina on September 28, 1926. She was the daughter of the late Paul and Frances Nesbitt. Lucille passed away peacefully on October 12, 2022, in her home.
She was married at a very young age (16) to the late Edgar Millen, in Charleston, South Carolina and remarried in 1963, in Brooklyn, New York to the late Edward Jones.
In Brooklyn, she completed courses and received her Nursing Aide Certification and was hired full time in 1969 at Bialystoker Home Infirmary for the Aged and remained a dedicated employee until her retirement.
She left Brooklyn and moved to Charleston, South Carolina around 1979, closer to most of her siblings and most important….closer to her eldest sister. She moved once again to Stone Mountain Georgia in 1998 to be close, once again, to her eldest sister Vernell.
As a young girl she so admired her Grandmother’s home. This admiration became a passion and her vision. She strived toward that vision, when in New York, while she was in Charleston and continued in Stone Mountain. She loved gardening, painting repairing, reorganizing, decorating, constantly pushing toward that goal; a house as beautiful as what she still remembered…”Grandmothers’ home.” This is what she missed doing when she could no longer walk, that stride, that push to achieve what her mind throughout her life still imagined.
She attended Indian Creek Baptist church prior to one of her illnesses. She cherished prayers with the warriors and the services nourishing her spiritual life. She enjoyed going out to lunch and events with church members, always excited about the union and their fellowship.
Lucille was preceded in death by one son, Tyrone Millen, four brothers, Edward, Theodore, Willie, and Felton Nesbitt, two sisters, Peatrola Markham and Vernell Taylor.
She is survived by her daughters, Theresa Millen, Deborah Millen and grandson Shawn Davis, Siblings, Maggie Marie, Hermer Swann, numerous nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
