Mrs. Madeleine Stewart Jonas, 89, of 134 Chappell Street, entered into eternal rest Saturday, May 2, 2020, at Springdale Healthcare Center in Camden, S.C. Born in Panama-Republic of Panama, November 3, 1930, she was the daughter of the late Frank Clark and Beryl Boyce. Graveside Service will be held Friday, May 8, 2020 at Evergreen Memorial Park, 802 N. Guignard Drive, Sumter, South Carolina 29150 at 1:00 p.m., Reverend Dr. Ephriam D. Stephens Eulogist. A public viewing will be held Thursday, May 7, 2020 at the Ephriam D. Stephens Funeral Home from 3:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m.
She enjoyed cooking, grocery shopping and working in her yard when she was able to do so. Reading her Bible gave her much enjoyment and that she did often. She had a charming enthusiastic zest for life.
Mrs. Jonas retired from Chase Manhattan Bank in New York. She spoke Spanish fluently and worked with English as a Second Language students at the Sumter Adult Education Center here in Sumter. Working at the Adult Education Center gave her an opportunity to not only assist with teaching another language, but to impart years of wisdom to the students.
Mrs. Jonas was preceded in death by her husband, Eric C. Jonas, Jr.; three daughters, Marilyn Amazia Jonas, Nidia Herminia Jonas and Iris Terina Jonas and one brother, Eric C. Jonas, lll.
She leaves to cherish her memories seven children: Dr. Maritza Hogan, Celia (Fred) White, Michael Anthony ( Lillian) Jonas, Errol Charles (Melissa) Jonas, Orlando Vincent Jonas, Mario Alberto Jonas, Armando Ernesto Jonas and Javier Juviel (Kaovny) Jonas; thirty three grandchildren and a host of great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, Cousins other relatives and friends.
