Margaret Grant Obituary

On the blessed day of September 2, 1946, Helen and Eli Grant were gifted with their baby girl, Margaret. On October 13, 2025, as the gates of Heaven swung wide open and she walked in, she was received and embraced by her Parents, as well as her siblings who all were there to greet her at her new heavenly home.

She received her education and her foundation beginning at Saint James Catholic Church, and eventually graduated from Colleton High School in 1963.

She then moved to New York where she met and married Collier Lewis. She enjoyed the finer things in life, and the experience that New York City had to offer with her family. (New York owes her nothing.) In 1974, they welcomed her heartbeat and first love Iyatunde Charisse Lewis into their lives. She returned home in 1978, to raise her family, and to take care of her parents.

She then began and completed her schooling as a respiratory therapist. She worked diligently in the healthcare field and took extreme joy helping everyone that she came in contact with. Her legacy began at Colleton Regional, and from there she blessed people at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) in Charleston, South Carolina where she retired.

Retirement did not slow her down at all. She was a lady always on the move, between her traveling adventures, she found peace in God and joy in her church. She was pivotal and instrumental as one of the founding members of W.O.R.D Ministries in Summerville, South Carolina. She served in the Children’s ministry and the Hospitality ministry. She truly had a heart to serve.

She started welcoming her mini heartbeats; her grandchildren. Dondre, Russunde, and Terrance Jr. Her heart was so loving she did not count it robbery to add an additional grandson to the crew. Elder Ronneil A. Brown. With a servants heart, she came out of retirement and went back to work serving consumers with the Board of Disabilities. She loved her plants, and did in the midst of it all her heart expanded even the more with the birth of her great grandchildren. Ty’erra Walker, (Myjah), Journie Lewis (Kayla), Dondre Jr., Dre’Quan (Dria).

She was preceded in death by her parents, Helen and Eli Grant, and her siblings, Shirley, Margie, Eliza, Frances, Isaiah, and Harry.

She has made many memories and we all cherish them, those that she leaves behind until we meet again are her loving daughter, Iyatunde Charrise Lewis (Terrance); her amazing grandchildren, Dondre, Russunde, and Lamont Cochran Jr., Ronneil A. Brown; her great grandchildren; her siblings, Vera, and Anthony Grant; a brother in Christ, Nathaniel Holmes; A  sister in Christ, Carolyn Fraizer; a great friend Wanda Gerideau; and a host of nieces, nephews, and community that will forever cherish her memory.
