Mrs. Mattie B. Lowery, one of six children, was born in Walterboro, South Carolina on November 18, 1958 to the late Eddie Boy and Nadine Lowery. She was raised by her grandparents Riley and Mary Jamison after the untimely death of her parents. She entered eternal rest on December 13, 2020 in Goose Creek, South Carolina.
Graveside Service will be held Tuesday, December 22, 2020 at 2:30 p.m. at Deep Creek Baptist Church Cemetery, Islandton, South Carolina. Reverend Tyrone Beckett, Pastor, and Reverend Brice Jamison, Eulogist. There will be a public viewing the day of service only at the Graveside.
(THOSE ATTENDING GRAVESIDE SERVICE ARE REQUIRED TO WEAR A FACIAL MASK, AND SOCIAL DISTANCING WILL BE ENFORCED.)
She accepted Christ as her personal Savior at an early age and joined Deep Creek Baptist Church in Islandton, South Carolina under the leadership of Reverend Jamison. She served on the choir. Mattie continued to be faithful to the Lord and his teachings until she was called home.
Mattie attended the Public Schools of Colleton County and graduated from Walterboro High School in 1978. She taught Nursing Assistance at North Park Village Community Center for three years before marrying the late Thorn Meggett. She then became a devoted and loving homemaker.
Mattie loved to cook, play cards, watch the Cowboys, and spend time and sharing laughs with her loved ones. She was nurturing and caring. She would help anyone in need. She was direct and did not sugarcoat anything.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Thorn Meggett; parents, Eddie Boy and Nadine Lowery; brothers, Deacon Wesley Lowery, John Lowery and James Lowery.
Those left to cherish her memories are her loving sons, Antonio (Yolanda) Lowery of Summerville, South Carolina, and Zershederick (Val) Lowery of Goose Creek, South Carolina; daughter, Quintiana (Alfred) Lowery of Goose Creek, South Carolina; seven grandchildren; loving sisters, Janette (Henry) Shanks of McDonough, Georgia, and Barbara (Frederick) Thiede of Wisconsin; cousin, Lela Matthew; special friend, Buddy Hughes and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
