Mrs. Clinez Doreather Salley was born on February 15, 1934 in Walterboro, South Carolina. On Friday, August 22, 2025 she was called Home while surrounded by her son, Keith and her daughter, Gwendoria aka Penny. She was 91 years old. Clinez was the youngest of 3 daughters born from the Union of the late Reather and Henry Salley.
Clinez attended Colleton County schools. Her faith in God was unwavering. Clinez accepted the Lord as her savior early in her life and joined Springtown United Methodist Church. She later migrated to Brooklyn, New York. There she married the love of her life, Richard Salley, Sr. From this union was their four children, Richard Salley, Jr. aka Jay (Redell), Sylvester Salley, Gwendoria Salley and Keith Salley.
While in New York, Clinez was a faithful and loyal member of Greater St. John Community Church of Brooklyn. She served many years on the Usher Board. Clinez had many jobs before getting her Early Childhood Development certificate from Antioch College. She retired as a Teacher’s Assistant at AudreyJohnson Day Care Center after 16 years of devoted service to the children of her community. After more than 35 years of living in Brooklyn and Queens, New York, Clinez returned to Walterboro. Through her years in New York, Clinez supported and fellowshipped often at her hometown church, Springtown United Methodist Church. Once retired in 1987, Clinez became more active and hands on as an usher at Springtown. Clinez loved serving the Lord. Clinez had a passion for baking and enjoyed sharing her delicious, homemade cakes with family andfriends. She also loved flowers and took great pride in her beautiful garden. Clinez was a generous and loving person who greatly enjoyed life. She was smart with an extra dose of common sense and strong math skills. She quickly calculated the discounted price of items while shopping in her favorite stores.Clinez loved and nurtured her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Always teaching and demonstrating the importance of hard work and the pursuit of excellence. They were the JOY and PURPOSE OF HER LIFE. She suffered the heartbreak of losing two of her children, Sylvester and Richard,Jr.
She was preceded in death by husband, Richard Salley, Jr.; her sons, Richard Salley, Jr., and Sylvester Salley; her two sisters, Ruth Stevens and Estelle Salley.
Clinez leaves a rich heritage to her son, Keith (former wife, Connie); daughter, Gwendoria; eight grandchildren, Vaughn, Kwamee, Arion, Eric, Jabree, Brittany, Kendle and Kavon;fourteen great grandchildren; three sister-in-Laws, Lucille Simmons (Jeff), Willa Mae Stevens, Pearline Robinson (Bob), many cousins, nieces, nephews, colleagues and friends.
We are all going to miss you. You were the best wife, mother,grandmother, relative and friend anyone could ask for. Mom, we look forward to that great resurrection hope that God extends to all who serve him. We will be there with open arms to greet You, Dad, Sylvester and Jay again!
