Mrs. Edith Salley Adams was born on July 30, 1933, in Walterboro, South Carolina. She entered into eternal rest on June 30, 2024 at Trident Hospital in North Charleston, South Carolina, following a short illness. She was the third of seven children born to the late Berry and Maybell Simmons Salley. Edith was preceded in death by her siblings, Berry C. Salley, Randolph Salley, Burnette Monroe and Mack Salley.
At an early age, Edith joined the Springtown United Methodist Church in Smoaks, South Carolina. She graduated from Springtown Community School in Smoaks, South Carolina.
Edith was united in holy matrimony to the late Johnny Lee Adams and they were blessed with two sons, the late Johnnie Ray (Spanky) Adams and Larry Adams of Walterboro, South Carolina.
Early in their marriage, Edith and her husband were stationed at Fort Ord, in California. After his military service, they relocated back to South Carolina and later moved to New York City. While in New York, Edith worked in several positions; however, she retired from Chock Full o’Nuts Company.
In 1998, Edith returned to her hometown in South Carolina and reunited with Springtown United Methodist Church. She served on the Greeting Committee and the United Methodist Women Society.
Edith enjoyed talking to people. She never met a stranger. She loved to travel and had a passion for beautiful clothing and good food. Upon her return to South Carolina, she learned to drive, got her driver’s license, and bought a car.
Left to cherish her loving and joyful memories are: a loving son Larry (Sandra) Adams of Walterboro, SC; daughter-in-law, Frances Adams of Brooklyn, NY; grandchildren, Jason Adams, Jonathan Adams, Shamont Adams and Travis Adams; two great-grandchildren, Jai Adams and Jada Adams; two sisters, Ellen Adams of Grover, SC, and Elsie (Ludie) Betts of Lawrenceville, GA; two sisters-in-law, Dessie Salley of Walterboro, SC, and Phyllis Salley of Columbia, SC; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and close friends.
