Mrs. Eulia Cobbs Obituary

Eulia Mae Washington Cobbs was born in Cottageville, South Carolina, on April 14, 1942, to the late Thomas and Lou Wiser Frasier Washington. She departed this life on January 28, 2024, at her residence.

Eulia attended the public schools of Colleton County and advanced her education by attending Denmark Area Trade School, now Denmark Technical Institute, and became a licensed cosmetologist. She was employed by Hodges Barber and Beauty Shop, Walterboro, South Carolina, before moving to Bronx, New York. While living in New York, Eulia entered into Holy Matrimony to Solomon Cobbs, and to this union, two children were born, Barry Tryone Cobbs and Janyce Michelle W. Cobbs.

After several years, the family relocated back home to Cottageville, South Carolina, where Eulia became a renowned local seamstress and a passionate gardener. She loved books and was an avid reader, making many trips to the library to check out books.

At an early age, Eulia joined Macedonia United Methodist Church. She served in various capacities: Sunday School and VBS teacher, Worship Chairperson, Choir Member, Communion Steward, Usher President, and a member of the United Methodist Women Ministry. She was involved with the National Extension of Homemakers and the 4H Program in Colleton County.

She leaves to cherish loving and fond memories: her beloved husband, Solomon Cobbs; her children, Barry T. Cobbs (Karen), North Charleston, South Carolina and Janyce Cobbs, Savanah, Georgia; grandchildren, Ashley, Dione, and Ariel (of the home); and great-granddaughter, Tiana Cobbs; Siblings: Thomas Washington (Alice), Helen Washington, Verel Martin (Malachi), Ella Howard (Nathaniel), Elijah (Edith E.), George and James Washington; Sisters-in-law Beatrice Wiggins (Cleveland), Easter Cobbs, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and a special friend, Mrs. Esther Womble.
