Mrs. Rosa Mikel Obituary

Rosa Mae White Mikel  was born August 29, 1940, and reared in love by the late Ansel White and Rebecca Frasier Edwards. The sweet angelic spirit of Rosa Mae White Mikel transitioned to paradise in the early morning hours of March 18, 2024.

Rosa was educated in the Colleton County School System. Early in life, she moved to New York and married Bobby Samuel Brown Sr. In this union she cared for her children and strived to nurture their passions.  When she returned to South Carolina, she met and married Harold Mikel and together this union created a large, blended family during which time they also reared one special grandson. As a mother and grandmother, she was affectionately called “Ma”.  She developed special relationships with her children and grandchildren, making sacrifices for each of them when she needed to do so.

Rosa taught her family that it is okay to be yourself, whatever that may be. Your poor self, your broken self, your brilliant, bold, phenomenal self. That was Rosa Mae’s reach.  She loved and adored her husband and her children. She cherished her grandchildren and their children’s children. She cared for the conditions of human beings through her unwavering dedication and commitment through acts of service.

As a laborer in the vineyard, Rosa was a loyal and dedicated employee.  She worked as a supervisor in the guest services and housekeeping department at the Players Club Resort in Hilton Head, South Carolina for over 20 years. Later, she dedicated her time, talent, and resources to the Colleton County School District as a cook. She had a positive impact on all the people she touched at Ivenia Brown Elementary School and Hendersonville Elementary School, especially the children of many who referred to her as “Grandma”. Upon retirement, she devoted her time to care for her husband, Harold Mikel.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Mikel and her parents, Ansel White and Rebecca Frasier Edwards.  Two brothers, David White, Sr., and James “Isiah” White; one sister, Rosa White Ladson.

She leaves to carry on her legacy three daughters Georgia (James) Jones of Walterboro, SC, Barbara Jean Rhone of St. Helena’s Island, SC, and Theresa (Floyd) Mulligan of Green Pond, SC; two sons, Bobby Samuel Brown of Green Pond, SC and Jerome Micheal Brown of Columbus, GA; one special grandson, Dwayne Mikel of Green Pond SC; five stepchildren, William Mikel of Columbia, SC, Aletha (Raymond) Whitlock of Lugoff, SC, Sarah Murray of Walterboro, Sacaqawea Williams of Beaufort, SC, And Evelyn (Frank) of Sylvania, Georgia; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
