Ophelia E. Brown, affectionately known as “Fee-Fee,” was born on July 1, 1955, in Whitehall, South Carolina to the late Lula Mae Wright Brown and Mims Young.
As a child, Ophelia attended Ebenezer C.M.E. church in Whitehall with her mother and grandmother, Mariah Boggs Wright. She became a member of the church in 1972.
Ophelia attended and graduated from Walterboro High School in Walterboro, SC in 1973. She attended Le Moyne College in Syracuse, New York, graduating with a Bachelor of Art Degree in English and Philosophy in 1977.
After graduation, Ophelia was employed by The SUNY Educational Opportunity Center. For 30 years, she taught writing and other continuing education courses to young adults aspiring to earn their General Education Diploma.
After retirement, Ophelia moved back to South Carolina in 2013.
Ophelia loved reading and writing poetry. She authored various poems for friends and family members. She self-published a book of poetry. In fact, some of her poems were included in a book that is currently in the Library of Congress.
Ophelia loved her family with all her heart. She has friendships that span nearly 50 years.
Ophelia slept her final sleep on January 13, 2024.
She leaves to celebrate her life, sisters, Julia M. Brown, Dorothy V. Davis (Charles), Rachel M. Barbour, Patricia Young Gregory, and Sandra Young Washington (Mack). Her brother Albert Brown Sr., and a host of cousins, nieces, and nephews. She also leaves behind her dear friend Pat Maureen and Godson, Brandon Gill, and countless friends.
Ophelia was preceded in death by both her parents, brothers Edward Brown, Arthur Lee Brown, and Theodore R. Brown.
