Murry Lee Small

Murry Lee Small, was born February 25, 1944, in Lee County, South Carolina. Murry, affectionately known as “Murk” transitioned peacefully from this life on the morning of November 16, 2025. 

He attended Mayesville Institute, Mayesville, South Carolina. At an early age he moved to Washington. DC and started his career as a chef at T-7 in Arlington, Virginia.

Murry was truly a mother’s son. Before passing, he spent his days with her (Mack) watching the soaps and discussing them as if they were people they knew. He kept (Momma Mack), and the family updated on family who lived far away, local events and news about Sumter. His heart was golden with an infectious laugh and genuine love for all his family.

Murry developed a close bond with his caregivers at NHC and Paradise Point of Sumter. The family appreciates the exceptional care provided to him to ensure his end-of-life journey was peaceful and memorable by the family. May the peace of God be with them and bless their labor of love.

Murry was preceded in death by his parents, Hallie Small and Marie (Mack) Small; two brothers, Hallie Small, Jr. and Spencer Bacote.

He leaves to cherish his memories one sister, Juanita Small Moses of Dist. Heights, Maryland,; two brothers, James Small (Shelia) of Jersey City, New Jersey, Earl Small of West Palm Beach, Florida; one daughter, Sharn McBride of Mayesville, South Carolina; two granddaughters of Brooklyn, New York; two great grandchildren of Brooklyn, New York; a special friend, Martha Mellette of Sumter, South Carolina; a special cousin, Martha Hannibal of Forestville, Maryland and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends to cherish his memories.
