Patricia Varn Obituary

On the afternoon of Monday, August 1, 2022 the Lord in His infinite wisdom called Mrs. Patricia Yates Varn from labor to reward. Her strength, resiliency, perseverance, and selflessness marveled right up to the very end. Above all the aforementioned attributes that distinguished her she was most esteemed as a MOTHER, GRANDMOTHER, DAUGHTER, SISTER AND FRIEND TO ALL.

We thank God for the life that she lived, and the time she shared with us. She passed down her loving kindness, and faithfulness, and it is with these attributes and many more that will strengthen and encourage us all in the days that lie ahead. Our lives have truly been enriched because of her love, selfless ways and her giving spirit. God blessed her with sixty-four (64) years of life, to the benefit of her family. She will be sorely missed but forever loved.

Patricia, known to most as “Tricky” was born on August 13, 1957. She was the beloved daughter of the late Minister Paul Yates and Mrs. Mildred Doctor Yates. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bobby L. Varn, father, Minister Paul Yates, brothers in law, J.B. Simmons, and Mack Varn, sister in law, Grace Johnson, Hattie m. Yates, and most recently her brother, Frederick “Ricky” Yates, Sr.

Early in life she became a member of the New Bethel Holiness Church in Ruffin, South Carolina. She was a graduate of Ruffin High School. She was employed with the CCX Cooperation in Walterboro, South Carolina. She was an asset to the company, serving faithfully for over thirty years.

She was married to the late Mr. Bobby Varn for over thirty-five years until his demise. She had a passion for many things.  She was an impeccable cook who specialized in sweet potato pies, and crab salad. She was an avid lover of yard sales, thrifting and couponing.

Left to celebrate her legacy of love is her children, Javon Varn (Esha Black) of Ruffin, South Carolina; Bobby Tyshawn Varn of Ruffin, South Carolina, Melika (Pastor Rubin W.) Jackson of Norway, South Carolina, Melisa Colley of Charlotte, North Carolina, and Theodore Antoine Colley of Orlando, Florida; loving mother, Mildred Yates of Ruffin, South Carolina; Grandchildren, Ke’Andre Varn, Kamaria Varn, Kingston Varn, Kashton Varn, Kyra Varn, A’Dashia (Rishawn) Dunbar, A’Deija Slater, Sydni Wiggan, and Cameron Colley; Great grandchildren, Micaiah Slater, Malia Slater, Landen Dunbar and Madelyn Dunbar and Mason Franklin; Brothers, Freddie (Isabell) Yates of Ruffin, South Carolina, Jonathan Yates of Macon, Georgia, Paul (Catherine) Yates of Walterboro, South Carolina, Tony (Linda) Yates of Ladson, South Carolina; Sisters, Sandra Simmons of Smoaks, South Carolina, Carol (Dexter) Stephens of Ruffin, South Carolina, Tammy  Walker of Ruffin, South Carolina, Aquilla (Mike) Cavanaugh of Summerville, South Carolina,  Constance T. Doctor of Columbia, South Carolina, and Earthareen (William) Green; Uncles, Jacob Doctor, James Doctor, and Isaac Doctor; Aunts, Jeanette Wright, and Josephine Boatwright;  Brothers in law, Cleveland (Mary) Varn, and Gerald Varn; Sister in law, Marcia Washington and Francis Varn; Goddaughters, Diamonte Shania Aiken and Quanisha Dixon; and a host of other nieces, nephews, family and friends.

“Tricky” fought a good fight, battling cancer and enduring numerous medical obstacles without complaining. We are assured that she is rejoicing in heaven wearing her “crown”! The victory has been won.
