Robert Gundelyn Ferrette was born April 09, 1936, to the late Thaddeus Cornelius Ferrette and the Late Margaret Virgina Ferrette in Charleston, South Carolina and departed his earthly home on Thursday, April 10, 2025, at the Colleton Medical Center. The Young Robert and his parents later relocated to Walterboro, South Carolina where Robert attended and graduated from (CTS) Colleton Training School. Robert was a member of the football, basketball, and baseball teams.
Upon graduation, Robert enlisted in the United States Air Force where he faithfully served a four - year tour of duty. After his completion of military service, Robert attended South Carolina State University.
Robert met the love of his life and was united in Holy Matrimony with Dorothy Mae Brooks. To this union of sixty-three years, two beautiful daughters were born, Patricia Ferrette Sherrill and Pricilla Virginia Ferrette. The Ferrettes raised their daughters in the church and shared a love of faith and commitment to assisting others.
The Ferrette family resided in New York City for seventeen years. While there, he attended New Rochelle College in New York City, where he earned his bachelor’s degree in social work. He matriculated into a career as a case worker for the Department of Social Services.
In 1977, the family relocated to Walterboro, South Carolina where he continued his dedicated career in the field of social work with the Department of Social Services in Columbia, Charleston, and Walterboro for decades until his retirement.
Mr. Ferrette was a member of the Tuskegee Airmen Committee and a member of the Commission of the Blind. He was an active member of the Rock of Ages CME Church where he served on the trustee, usher, and steward boards until his health declined. He was monumental in assisting his wife with the social concerns committee. Robert worked diligently in his community and was well known with his wife as a faithful political, social, and community activist.
Robert was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Brooks Ferrette and his parents, the late Thaddeus Cornelius Ferrette and the late Margaret Virginia Ferrette.
He leaves to cherish his memories: two daughters, Patricia Ferrette Sherrill of Walterboro, South Carolina and Priscilla Virginia Ferrette of Orangeburg, South Carolina; six grandchildren, Ashley P. Finklin (Courtney), April P. Stephens (Shelly), Amber N. Ferrette Griffin, Anthony L. Sherrill, Jr. (Merecedes), and Drayton S. Washington (Ebony) and Brittney Washington; ten great grandchildren; one brother-In-law, Willie S. Brooks; three close cousins, James Ferrette (Carol), Jerome Ferrette (Daisey), and Bernard Ferrette (Anne) and a host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends.
